Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 3/25-3/31

Posted on by .

I’m still riding that post-SXSW high. I’ve been stealing minutes here and there to process all the pictures and songs, bring faces back to the pile of business cards, and write and reflect on everything that happened so that I won’t soon forget.  I’ve also taken some time this week to catch up with friends and share my stories. I was only gone a week, but it seems like it was much longer based on all that happened while I was gone. Hopefully (or maybe not) this week will feel a bit more routine. There certainly are a number of shows inhabiting my week’s schedule. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 3/11-3/17

A teensy bit overwhelmed by everything I still have to do for SXSW. We’re leaving tomorrow. I’ve got my incredibly overwhelming schedule, my extra pair of comfy shoes, and my camera so I should be good, right? Oh, did I mention I got sick last week and lost my voice? Still recovering from that so…yay. Tonight is The Silent Comedy at The Casbah down in San Diego. I’m sad The Silent Comedy boys won’t be at SXSW this year, but I couldn’t be more grateful for an SD show conveniently booked the night before I need to catch a plane from SD…also, I have plenty of other artists to track down in Austin (my top picks list should be coming out tomorrow).

If you’re staying in LA this week, you have a lot to look forward to as well. There are some really good residencies this month. Sad Robot Tuesdays at Hemmingway’s, David & Devine at The Hotel Cafe Weds nights, and Sonia Rao and Elliot Yamin at WitZend every Thursday. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 3/3-3/11

I’m putting my calendar together from a wonderful little cafe in Santa Monica. It’s a very calming place that has comfy chairs, pink ginger lemonade and good music. What more do I need?

With SXSW music week just around the corner, LA is getting some great out of country acts stopping in this week on their way to Austin. By way of Germany we have Fetsum and indie pop darlings Boy playing Bardot and The Troubadour.  Australia’s Jack Carty, The Trouble With Templeton, and Emma Louise all have at least one show this week. If you want to rock out, try Canada’s Mother Mother at The Viper Room or New Zealand’s Six60 at Los Globos. Also from Canada, Said The Whale and Wake Owl will be at The Hotel Cafe. Finally, the UK has a couple outstanding troubadours in town with Marcus Foster and Frank Turner. You won’t get many chances to see any of these artists, so if you dig ‘em, be sure to go see ‘em!

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/28-1/3

Yesterday I was able to check “go to Big Bear” off my LA bucket list. Actually I was able to check try downhill skiing off my list as well. I was pleasantly surprised at how music-friendly the mountain was. I walked up to the resort to one of my favorite Switchfoot songs, had lunch with some Band of Skulls and Imagine Dragons, and throughout the afternoon heard snippets of live music from the various bands. It was very tempting to give up the snow and skis for a smoothie and some live tunes.

This week, quite frankly, has too many shows I “need” to attend. Honestly, there is at least one thing every night that I’m super pumped about. I am going to have to make some difficult choices, so if anyone has anything to say to sway me in a particular direction, let me know. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/31-1/6

Happy New Year!! Whatever you end up doing to celebrate the transition into 2013, I hope you stay safe and have a blast. Once again I am foregoing my former tradition of staying in and watching Star Wars in favor of some live music. My concert of choice this year is Dirty Sweet at The Griffin in San Diego! A one-off reunion show from a band I love that hasn’t played in a couple of years. How can I refuse? I think more bands “on hiatus” should do this kind of thing.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to so many shows coming in the New Year, starting with next week! I’m particularly excited about Thursday night at The Roxy with Lakes, The Active Set and Royal Teeth. I hope to see you all out at a show soon!

Here are my other top picks:

Monday: Vintage Trouble at The Roxy (8pm)
