Well, all the fun I had been having finally caught up to me and I caught the cold that everyone else managed to get as well. Needless to say, I didn’t make it out to see any shows during the week. However, I rested up enough for the double header of The Silent Comedy at Petco and Colony House at The Belly Up. Totally worth it.

I had two big musical events this past week, the sold out Almost Monday show at the Music Box and Danny Elfman’s Nightmare Before Christmas sing along in LA. Both were epic but in different ways. Imagine a sold out show full of your younger self (sixteen to twenty-something) in costume who managed to turn the floor/pit into a swirling mosh of bodies that moved as one being lead and orchestrated by the highly energetic and masterful touch of Almost Monday. That was my Thursday. Next, imagine seeing Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas in a huge stadium with an orchestra that played along to the movie complete with many original cast members including Danny Elfman, Greg Proops, Ken Page, and Paul Reubens. Also, toss in Billie Eillish singing Sally’s part. Oh and if that wasn’t enough, the encore turned into an Oingo Boingo concert where they played “Dead Man’s Party.”

Needless to say, I’m staying in until Sunday.

I had an absolute ball this weekend at Chain Fest in Irvine!!! I was transported back to my prime emo days of 2010 where there was nary a care and some amazing adventures with friends. I FINALLY got to see Cartel, something I was sure would never happen; as well as the likes of Anberlin; Mayday Parade, who played ALL the jams from A Lesson In Romatics; the back and better than ever The Summer Set, and so many more. I’m thankful that event was rescheduled so I could attend and enjoy. Kudos to Kristen for our prime seat location, which was basically a seated spot in the pit. Fantastic view but could sit and dance instead of lean in pain! Also, props to FivePoint Amphitheatre for having a great space with good food and a top notch security detail. The little things matter folks.

I don’t know about you but my Rocktober is in full swing! I may not have been able to make it out during the week last week despite many good intentions but I more than made up for it Saturday night. I found myself venturing out more than once this week and subsequently felt like I needed to relax the rest of the week. Ha! I made it out on Monday to check out Plague Vendor and Lowlives who I very much enjoyed. That evening was made better by the lovely woman behind the bar who gave me some earplugs as mine had developed legs and walked off somewhere. Kristen came down for a magical night at Soda Bar with Dear Boy and The Dumes. All in all, a wonderful week music wise for me. We have some standouts this week as we start into Rocktober. Maybe I’ll see you there?
