This week was a fun one. I made it out to the Sunset Sessions showcase on Friday and sampled some new bands as well as enjoyed some familiar faces. I saw Augustana for the first time in almost 10 years! It was new and familiar all at the same time. In addition to some show fun, I was lucky enough to be a part of an epic shoot yesterday with Beware of Darkness, The Joelsons, Vessel Drums, and some of the Rowlbertos crew and some other amazing peeps at Big Fish Recording. This week is kind of exciting for us in San Diego because the Sunset Sessions rolls into town. Last year, I had a blast discovering some new bands and watching old favorite. Two of the three nights are completely sold out (I wouldn’t mind seeing NEEDTOBREATHE. Just sayin’) which is pretty stupendous. The rest of the week is kind of light but there’s a lot happing on Thursday. I wouldn’t mind seeing Sir Sly play again at the Hard Rock Hotel’s 207 Club. Fancy. And the week starts off right with New Politics and Jon McLaughlin. Take your pick.

Last week was a pretty mellow one for me. It involved the usual chores, 3 rental movies, some Will and Grace, a dash of Murder, She Wrote, and a sampling of the Sochi Winter Olympics. That might change this week with some of the shows in store. It’s a pretty grey morning here in San Diego. We had some rain last night during the wee hours and the looming grey clouds are still here. Their threat is minimal at this point in time and I can feel the sun trying to come out but I’d rather stay home and cuddle up today.

Of course, there some good stuff this week show wise. Thursday is Wendy Bailey’s farewell show. She’s moving out of state so be sure to go and say hello before she leaves us all. Tonight is Switchfoot at the Casbah. We also have Young the Giant on Sunday at Soma and Pat Benatar and Niel Giraldo are in town playing the Belly Up in Saturday and Pechanga on Friday. Let us not forget Citizen Cope at the Balboa Theatre on Saturday too. Lots to see and do!

It’s been a crazy busy week full of fun for me and it looks like it’s not letting off till after Wednesday. A few of my adventures were music related including my first time at NAMM on Saturday. It was so fun to experience and a lot to take in but I got to stare at some pretty drums which made me very happy. I had no idea there was so much out there in the music world. It was quite impressive and somewhat overwhelming, all at the same time.

The fun doesn’t stop this week either with a trip up to LA to catch the first Dear Boy performance of 2014 and back up to Anaheim on Wednesday to see one of my bucket list artists, Pink. As for San Diego…

Last week was kind of a blur of awesome for me. I went up to LA and met up with some other Maniacs to hear the new single “Sleeping With A Friend” from Neon Trees courtesy of Tyler Glen himself. There was some stickering, postering, signing, chatting, and hugging. It was pretty awesome. Another awesome thing was getting out to Soda Bar and watching Strange Vine and Brothers Weiss play while enjoying the company of friends.

Speaking of company of friends, I fully expect to see the usual suspects this Sunday for the first night of The Silent Comedy’s two night stint at the Casbah. There’s some other great shows this week such as Janelle Monae at the House of Blues, The Lonely Wild with Low Volts and The Palace Ballroom at Soda Bar, and a whole mess of fun on Thursday night with Vonda Shepard and more.
