After a raucous week/month of shows resulting in some light crowd-induced injuries, this weekend offered a respite with the delightful Norwegian folk duo, Kings of Convenience whose 10+ year absence prompted 3 full to sold out shows at the Fonda. The audience was encouraged to snap along to the acoustic songs as clapping was deemed “too much” and the rage moment of the evening occurred when special guest Feist took to the drum kit. The energy did gradually ascend to a venue-wide dance party defined by gentle swaying and light bouncing. This vibe is exactly what I needed and proved that you don’t need high decibels or a threat of physical injury to get swept up in the music or express appreciation for a band.
Next week we have a particularly difficult decision to make Friday night between can’t miss duo, Sydney Sprague and Wheelwright, going up against the Cordovas and Joe Firstman celebrating one of my favorite albums of all time, The War of Women.
