After over a month away, I’m back in Los Angeles! My final week in the UK included two helpings of the You Me at Six Sinners Never Sleep anniversary tour (which also included The Hunna!). There was also some time spent in Yorkshire, Oxford, and The WB Studios.

I’ve had an amazing amount of energy to do things these past six weeks (while also working), so hopefully I’ll have the energy to get out some this week, especially to see Annie DiRusso, Dean Lewis, and G Flip.

Usually, Memorial Day Weekend finds me in Napa at the BottleRock Music Festival, but this year I’m at a different fest, Neighbourhood Weekender in Warrington, UK. It was a bit smaller and full of young folk wearing bucket hats, but the music was a stellar combination of exciting new artists (Michael Aldag, The Royston Club, Pixey) and established favorites (James Bay, Starsailor, Razorlight). I loved seeing massive crowds sing along with every song for bands like Red Rum Club, Blossoms, and Tom Grennan. This would not be happening back home…

This week, I finally got to see a band I’ve been obsessing over for two years called King No-One. Expectations were high for the Yorkshire-based rockers, but their live performance managed to exceed them, reminding me a bit of Semi-Precious Weapons or early days Imagine Dragons. I hope these guys can find a way to come to The States soon as I’m not sure I can wait another two years to see them live again. So, everybody, get to the Spotifies (or streaming platform of choice) and tell your friends so we can build them an audience!

Last week, I spent 3 days full of music in Brighton, UK at The Great Escape and, because 3 is not enough, today I attended the Aussie BBQ in London where I saw many of my current fave Aussie acts (Little Quirks, Grace Cummings) as well as some new discoveries (The Vanns, Tyne-James Organ).

Los Angeles plays host to another one of my favorite Australian acts next week: Gang of Youths. I feel like their new album, Angel in Realtime, must be experienced live (the key to my love of all my top AU bands).

I’ve now been in the UK for a bit over a week. I’ve been to Leicester, Bristol, and London and next up I’m heading to Brighton for The Great Escape Festival. I’ve been listening to all the artists (HERE is my mix), but I am particularly excited to catch The Hara, Bilk, Conrad, and Dead Sara (don’t judge me for prioritizing an LA band – any opportunity to see Dead Sara must be taken!).

In LA, Monday is Biffy Day as Biffy Clyro makes their triumphant return to the Belasco. When the band announced their return to The States, they posted some pictures, including one of their last show at the Belasco (where I spotted myself in the crowd). They will rock the roof off the place! On the other end of the musical spectrum, I’d highly recommend catching Evan Bartels at the Hotel Cafe. His songs get right in there for me.

Many of the music venues are turning into comedy houses for the Netflix is a Joke festival. I am using this as an excuse to exit not just the city, but the country and will be checking out all the UK bands in their homeland for the next few weeks. Yesterday I was in Leicester, UK rocking out with The Virginmarys (!!). Today I’m in London gearing up for a week that might include Red Rum Club, Kid Kapachi, Will and the People, and Twin Atlantic celebrating the 10 year anniversary of one of my favorite albums, Free.

Back in LA, I’ve earmarked the musical experiences I would love to attend. I’d particularly recommend Quinn Christopherson who is opening for Thao at Teragram Ballroom on Friday (he was a surprise find at SXSW). We also have a pair of rock duos with cleopatrick (my top 2021 pick) opening for Royal Blood.

Today is the day! I’m in New York City seeing my favorite band, Biffy Clyro, for the first time in 5 years. Since one time is never enough, tomorrow I’m heading to Philly to see the band again.
