I feel like it’s been an emotional week for many. My response has been long walks in nature, a massive sing-along with Dashboard Confessional and cathartic head banging with Grandson and friends. After a big music week, I’m enjoying a low-key long weekend minding a puppy. Things the puppy likes: sticks, awkwardly sleeping on top of me, The Mandalorian (specifically The Child), food (her food, my food, random refuse on the street that looks vaguely like food) and walking up the steps to strangers’ front doors. Things the puppy does not like: people eating, people sleeping, people sitting on their balconies or standing on the sidewalks (particularly in groups), being left alone (even for a few minutes), and oversized traffic cones.  It’s been a delightful weekend, but I do look forward to returning to a life where going to the bathroom is not a big event.

I’m also looking forward to some musical delights next week including Grandson, Wheelwright, and a special performance from Dashboard Confessional celebrating new music at the Troubadour.

I am starting to feel like I have a social life again. This is directly correlated to an uptick in live musical experiences. Coincidence?  I saw a livestream from Gang of Youths this week and David Le’aupepe said “music is a gateway drug to belonging” and this really hit. Music this week led me to new discoveries (hello Evan Bartels!) and inspiring conversations (IS the future of music spoken word indie-pop?) and generally gave me the energy and enthusiasm to get through the rest of my week.  

Another accomplishment last week was more trip planning for a UK adventure which I shall celebrate next week with UK artists JC Stewart and James Gillespie.

I’m powering through the artists from the latest SXSW music announcement. It’s almost maybe feeling like the event might happen in some sort of reasonable in-person way this year, so I am going to be prepared! I’m working on other music-related travel this spring which has been complicated by a Biffy Clyro tour announcement bringing the band to LA (for the first time in 5 years) on a day when I will be out of town thus necessitating another trip to see them in another city (learning towards NYC and Philly, but not ruling out Chicago…). Fingers crossed for safe future travels!
