I was musically living in the 90’s for a minute last week with back-to-back shows from Joan Osborne and the Marvelous 3. From the 90’s, I transitioned to Australia enjoying new tunes from Dice and Gordi. Last week, I managed a near complete week with each night feeling very different from the one before.  This was largely due to the tone of the audience. From the casual intensity of the CMAT crowd and the fight-ready drunks at Max McNown to the kind swayers at Billie Martin and artsy headbangers at Rocknite LA, it was made very clear that, while not all music fans are the same, the same type seem to find each other via their taste in music.

This week we officially enter the fall season which is my favorite for concert-going. September is off to a very strong start with a few heavy hitters coming to town. I can’t imagine what traffic is going to be like Saturday night with big shows in various parts of town. Personally, I’m inclined to avoid them all and head to downtown for some sweaty warehouse moshing with Wargasm or enthusiastic arm swaying with rising folk-country crooner Max McNown (but I would not say no to a last-minute Oasis invite).

It’s a good week all around for both rock and folk. Here are my top picks:
