I’d like give a shout out to The Summer Set for really doing a record release right. The new album, Meet Me At The Record Store, comes out August 15^th, but last week they performed the whole thing for a very pumped up crowd at The Roxy. It was an absolute delight to hear new songs live for the first time in a room full of fans.  The band also played a second set full of more familiar fare and hosted a pop-up shop outside the venue where anyone could purchase the new album and additional merch. Well done!

Next week, there are a surprising number of larger venue shows I might have to look into, but I’m most looking forward to a few rising Brit artists Olivia Dean and Wunderhorse at The Fonda.

Gearing up for one of the most intense weeks of my year at San Diego Comic Con. Once again, I’ll be working with High Voltage to interview talent, promote activations, and cover parties and events. This year, there are several bands playing that I’m thrilled to include in my schedule.  The All-American Rejects, Magnolia Park and the one and only Foxy Shazam are all playing parties or other types of events and I am here for this, Comic Con!

Warped Tour is also coming through California (Long Beach) and we have some of those bands playing other stages in LA and the OC. Notably, Royal & The Serpent bringing her All Grl Jam to the Echo Thursday night as just one option on a very packed night of girl power groups.

I’ve been catching up with the musicians, venues, and fellow music fans in the Philadelphia area. The Philly music scene is where I fell in love with live music and music discovery and it’s been quite the trip seeing what has changed and, more likely, what has not. 

While I love my Philly bands and friends, this trip makes me look even more forward to returning home where next week (like many weeks) we have some unique peaks into new music (Michael Clifford, Jade Bird at the Grammy Museum), another set from my current local band obsession, Blame My Youth, opportunities to see music legends, and, of course, all the showcases designed for discovering something new.
