While I very much enjoyed being at the Barbarians of California’s debut, I’m not sure I enjoyed it as much as the young man repeatedly flipping off of the stage and into the raging crowd.  Despite the fact that I was sitting a safe distance from the melee, I’m willing to bet that I was more sore post show than that kid…

We have made it to my second favorite month of the year – Rocktober! It feels a bit strange for everyone to suddenly be talking about a band you’ve been listening to for many many years, but that’s what seems to be happening this weekend after Linkin Park announced Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara (LMN Band Love) as their new singer. Props to them for stealing one of the best rock vocalists I’ve ever seen, but I’m a bit sad as it feels like I’m saying goodbye to one of my favorite bands. For the lucky ones who scored tickets to Emily’s Linkin Park debut at the Forum this week, congrats!

If those Forum tickets were a bit out of reach, there are plenty of other women who rock playing (reasonable) LA stages. We’ve got Longwinded, Bruvvy, Upsahl, Emi Grace (WFNM Weds) and another fave, Sydney Sprague, if you need some mild to moderate headbanging. There’s also my show pick of the week which is back-to-back nights with The Rescues and Garrison Starr at the Hotel Cafe. Not exactly rock, but also not to be missed.
