Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/5-5/11

With festival season easing in, I’m reflecting upon perhaps my favorite overseas fest, Barn on the Farm. Taking place in the English countryside, not too far from Wales, the rustic fest still manages to boast a stellar lineup of both known and new (to me) acts. The last, hopefully not final, Barn on the Farm was in 2023 where I feel in love with many a band including the passion and harmonies of Irish folk/pop group, Kingfishr, who happen to be playing their first Los Angeles show Monday night at The Hotel Cafe.

As the week continues, we’ve also got the start of a couple notable May residencies (Lila Forde, Hardcastle) and a couple powerful one-two punches in Rett Madison + John-Robert at the Echo and Circa Waves + Friday Pilots Club at the El Rey.

It’s been an eventful week personally speaking. Everything is ok but it’s one of those things where it feels like “when it rains, it pours.” I’m hoping for a bit of a reprieve this week. In more exciting news, The Silent Comedy announced a hometown show at the Belly Up with their pals Transfer in September. I feel like it’s been eons since both of those bands played! It’s been a solid week(ish) for new music releases. Songs off HIMALAYAS’ BAD STAR have been creeping their way into my playlists as the singles have dropped but now we have a glorious 38min 15sec rock and roller coaster. Then pink-haired “Good Bi” Beth McCarthy gets messy in her Hot and Stupid EP/era (check out “Hurting My Own Feelings”). Finally, LMN band love Wheelwright has a new album, a collection of both old and new tunes, called Everyone’s Rich. We can celebrate with Wheelwright Thursday night at Gold-Diggers as part of Lucas Flood Presents: Rebel Rising event.

Greetings from the comfort of my recliner. Yes, I have a recliner and it’s best for when I’m writing up my calendars! My UK trip was amazing, full of memories that will hopefully last a lifetime and too many pictures to count. I should really get around to posting the last half of my trip online but I digress. I love the UK and hopefully, will have a reason to go back in the next few years. I would’ve stayed longer but I’m fairly sure my mother would’ve murdered me. But I have so much more tea, some fun trinkets, signed posters, and too many new shirts to count.
