Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 5/8-5/14

Well, I had a fun start to my week with a trip to Disneyland but it ended with a cold and exhaustion. I blame the father of a kid at Disneyland who didn’t seem to care about her running nose and her sneezing. I’m feeling better but I probably won’t be at 100% for a bit longer.

Also, freak rainstorm the past few days means I don’t feel bad about staying home and sleeping. Hopefully I’ll be able to get up and out for something this week!

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/8-5/14

Today has been a day for discovery.  I discovered some new comics at Free Comic Book day including one by a fellow Dead Sara fan who recognized me from a show.  I discovered that not only is there a type of plant called a bromeliad, but there are people who grow and “show” said plants.  Most excitedly, I discovered a new TV show, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.  You really can’t go wrong when the title character is a Bryn Mawr alumna and the pilot is written by Amy Sherman-Palladino so you know it’s full of snappy dialogue and rich and very colorful characters.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 05/01- 05/07

This weekend came and went in a hurry. I didn’t even make a dent in my to do list, but I did spend an entire day playing games so I suppose that was my weekend.  I feel like after the day of gaming, I might be able to conclude that I prefer card games to board games.  Perhaps this is due to a greater familiarity with cards.  I can also build a mean card castle, but I’m not sure that is entirely relevant to the situation.

Next week, we’ve got more shows to delight and inspire. Friday night is the final night of the Taylor John Williams Hotel Cafe residency. I was lucky enough to be there last week and would definitely recommend checking this guy out.  I’m also very much looking forward to seeing Lewis Watson again Saturday night at The Troubadour as his songs are still swimming around my brain from SXSW.

Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 4/17-4/23

This past week I made it out to see Vanessa Carlton at the Casbah and I’m sooooo glad I did! I had never seen her live before and was unfamiliar with anything of hers beyond Be Not Nobody which was her debut album. However, she opened with A Thousand Miles to “get the elephant out of the room so the room can breathe.” Everything else of hers I was unfamiliar with but throughly enjoyed. She was full of lovely stories about how certain songs came to be, how she found her accompanist Sky, the fact that if you Google Edwardian Death Vest it won’t come up with any results, and life outside of the world of the label. So, yeah. That was a fun night.

But we have another week upon us and another Coachella weekend. Let’s see what’s up…
