Local Music Nation

Last week certainly was a busy one. Between spending time with Matt Woods, Mondo Cozmo, Jack Savoretti, and my new band love, BRAVES (plus a podcast taping and a board game night), I did not meet my SXSW-prep goals.  This weekend, I’ve had to focus on work as well as lingering obligations from grad school which have put me in a state of stress that I have not felt in months. I’m trying to see the bright side…at least this is no longer my everyday life. Also, prepared or not, SXSW is only one week away and it is going to be awesome!

In the meantime, can we talk about what is happening next Thursday night?  Irontom announced that they were joining Dead Sara at El Cid.  I am beside myself with anticipation for what I am certain will be one of the most insane shows of the year. Faces will melt.  Brains will explode. I hope to see everyone there!

Oscars tonight!  Will LA LA Land dominate or will the recent backlash result in a few surprising upsets?  I’m looking forward to watching with a few of my east coast friends (sometimes technology is a marvelous thing).

I’m pleased as punch to have a long weekend this weekend. I got an unexpected half day on Friday and was downright giddy to be able to go home and do laundry. I’m not sure when I reached the point in which finding time to do laundry was a luxury, but here we are.

Last week, I went to the twenty one pilots arena show. It brought me all the way back to 2013 when I saw the band and wrote a particularly enthusiastic email to Amanda that I ended throwing up on the site. I had the opportunity to see a screening of John Wick: Chapter 2 last week and now I’m on a let’s watch Keanu Reeves kill everything movie spree.  I don’t think I realized how many choices I had here. I’ve cued up John Wick, Constantine, and The Matrix.  I’ll have to end the series with a viewing of The Lake House or something.

We’ve also begun the SXSW countdown. 1 month to go this week! I’m behind on my music listening so I feel like this week, I’ll have to sacrifice a couple shows in order to devote more time to prep for the big week in Austin. But maybe I’ll find myself out at some point, hopefully celebrating a few Grammy wins…
