I don’t know about you but my Rocktober is in full swing! I may not have been able to make it out during the week last week despite many good intentions but I more than made up for it Saturday night. This was probably one of the craziest weekends I’ve had in awhile which involved a Dead Sara/Dear Boy double header one night in LA and finished off with a horse show bright and early Sunday morning. I should probably stay home and recover but I find that highly unlikely this week given Badflower, The Score, and Walk the Moon are coming to town. Let’s dance.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 10/11-10/17

I made it to 8 gigs last week (!!) culminating in a Dead Sara: Dear Boy: Dead Sara show sandwich. Experiencing both “Hesitation Waltz” and “Weatherman” in the same night took the evening to an epic status not achieved in quite some time. Last week in general was the kind of week my music-loving heart dreams of. I was able to hear songs live for the first time from so many great artists.  The coolest night was an album release event for Upsahl’s Lady Jesus where we got the entire album live just as it was being released into the world. BEST way to experience an album for the first time, especially one that is such a bopper!  

The trend of celebrating new albums continues next week as Badflower returns to LA a few weeks after releasing This is How The World Ends. Can’t wait!

We have a new venue alert this week! The Venice West has taken over the space in Venice where Witzend used to be, filling a void in the music scene on the West Side. Anyone else craving live music on the West Side? This one’s for you!

While I look forward to checking out the new venue, it will not be this week as I am overwhelmed by the number of can’t miss shows. I found myself venturing out more than once this week and subsequently felt like I needed to relax the rest of the week. Ha! I made it out on Monday to check out Plague Vendor and Lowlives who I very much enjoyed. That evening was made better by the lovely woman behind the bar who gave me some earplugs as mine had developed legs and walked off somewhere. Kristen came down for a magical night at Soda Bar with Dear Boy and The Dumes. All in all, a wonderful week music wise for me. We have some standouts this week as we start into Rocktober. Last week was full of great live music, catching up with more friends and watching a lot of winning baseball (my team is on a historic 16 game win streak which will certainly carry them into October). This led into a weekend of listening to nothing but the new Badflower album, This is How The World Ends.

With last week’s return of a very jet-lagged Frank Turner, it feels like maybe the country is starting to let in international artists again. This would be incredibly exciting as my list of UK artists I need to see after discovery via livestreams feels quite long and continues to grow with the ongoing weekly Scruff of the Neck stream on Twitch.
