Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/31-2/6

I’m powering through the artists from the latest SXSW music announcement. It’s almost maybe feeling like the event might happen in some sort of reasonable in-person way this year, so I am going to be prepared! I’m working on other music-related travel this spring which has been complicated by a Biffy Clyro tour announcement bringing the band to LA (for the first time in 5 years) on a day when I will be out of town thus necessitating another trip to see them in another city (learning towards NYC and Philly, but not ruling out Chicago…). Fingers crossed for safe future travels!

Back in LA this week, Ninet begins a residency at The Hotel Cafe, Bad Suns celebrate a new album, and The Watkins Family Hour returns to the Largo.

Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 1/31-2/6

I made it to a show this week! I was having a high energy day on Wednesday and I made it out to Soda Bar to catch Zen Thomas, Lance Rodriguez, and James Spaite. It was nice to see what my body could tolerate and how long I could last. Fun fact: standing is more comfortable than sitting but I do need sitting breaks as well. I do wish I was able to catch more of Zen’s set (I thought it started at 8 but that apparently was not the case) and I wish the Soda Bar would stop cranking the air conditioner up after 9pm when there are not enough bodies to warrant that kind of chill. But all in all, it was nice to experience and know that I can do it! Hooray for progress! San Diego also got some exciting show announcements including Biffy Clyro and Almost Monday, both at the Music Box but let’s see what’s coming this week.

This has been a week for trip planning. Between a trip to the UK in May to see You Me At Six and the When We Were Young Fest in October, there’s a lot going on. Also, who else got SDCC vibes trying to get tickets for the WWWY fest? I had multiple browsers and tabs open so I could get through and thankfully luck prevailed through Chrome and again with my wisdom to sign up for the hotel and ticket bundle. To those of you who didn’t get through, I have faith that the wait list will open up and all the scalpers prices will drop closer to October. In the meantime, here’s what’s rolling through SD…

I went down a bit of an Anais Mitchell rabbit hole this week sparked by repeated listening of recent single “Bright Star”. The good news is there is a new album on the horizon –  her first solo work in over a decade!  The bad news is the singer’s planned tour stop in Los Angeles has been postponed…
