Today a homeless man insisted on giving me money. I’m not sure what this means, but it can’t be good if someone who has so little thinks that you have less. Did I really look that frazzled? I was in the midst of planning my week when he interrupted me so I’m sure my brow was quite furrowed.

Speaking of my week, the ideal plan would be to simply live at The Hotel Cafe and see a host of amazing artists that have packed the schedule at my favorite venue.  Highlights include a couple CD releases (Jasmine Ash, Rob Giles), some out of town faves (Harper Blynn, Will Dailey, Ari Hest), a few local treasures (Mariah McManus, Infantree, Andy Clockwise), and an American Idol contestant (Paul McDonald). What an awesome and exhausting week! Finished this two week crazy intense neuroimaging training program. Meet some truly amazing people from around the world and Friday night I was excited to take some of them out and show them a bit of my other life. We ventured to The Viper Room for Indian’s CD Release show. Everyone fell in love with opening band, Maniac. Then Indians put on their trademark powerhouse of a set. I was happy to be able to finally take home some of their songs! We caught a bit of the craziness that is Har Mar Superstar and rounded out the night with some Little Red Radio dancing.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 8/23-8/30

I write to you now from a bench outside one of my favorite dining establishments down the street from where I went to college in Bryn Mawr, PA. I’m waiting for my college roommate and her sister to come pick me up and carry me through the next leg of my east coast journey. I flew in yesterday to Philadelphia in time to see one of my favorite local Philly bands, Alright Junior, at The North Star Bar. It had been a year since I’d seen them and words are hard to conjure to appropriately explain how incredibly happy I was to be in their presence again . It’s one thing to listen to a CD over and over again, but nothing can really replace the live experience and last night was just a validation as to why Alright Junior is one of my favorite bands.

A week from now I will be writing to you a tad on the late side…I will be a beach house in South Carolina enjoying the singer songwriter extravaganza, Hotel Carolina. I will unfortunately not have internet access so I apologize in advance for next week’s delayed concert list.

For me this week is going to be somewhat dry as far as concerts are concerned. I’ll be in the Washington DC area if anyone knows of a good band playing in those parts please let me know. I’ll definitely be envious of all of you back in LA enjoying all the amazing shows, such as:

Truth & Salvage Co. full length CD out TODAY!

Posted on by .

It’s Tuesday. You music lovers know what that means. This Tuesday is particularly important as one of my fave LA bands has their first full length CD available. Truth & Salvage Co. has been on my must see list for awhile now. They put on one of the most enjoyable live shows and now, their music can be brought to you, wherever you are.  Their self-titled album is available on ITunes and in select stores. Their official CD release party is in Ashville, North Carolina tonight at The Grey Eagle. If you’re lucky enough to live close by, go celebrate with the band for me! I, for one, am participating in the Storming the Amoeba event and will be dropping by the Hollywood location later this evening to pick up my copy.

Check it out before you buy it on AOL’s listening party.

And please, please, please, do yourself a favor and go see their live show. They are touring all over the country. Check to see if they’re coming to a town near you:
