Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 4/8-4/14

Watching some season 1 Veronica Mars in honor of the super successful Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the VM movie. I’m excited (and yes, I pledged). I’ve seen these episodes so many times, it’s the perfect background for getting some work done.

Speaking of work, it’s been overtime for me lately, so I haven’t been going to as many shows. There are some good ones next week too. I’m most excited about Curtis Peoples’ record release show on Wednesday at The Roxy. Then of course, if you’re lucky enough to have tickets, week 1 of Coachella is this weekend. Last night, The Sunset Strip kept me out a bit late, so I’m in recovery mode today. Perfect time to prep a couple band interviews and catch up on the Olympic Trials. I am quite excited about these upcoming games. Swimming! Gymnastics!! Equestrian events (I have a soft spot for dressage)!!!

But back to the point, we have another week of excellent shows. The beginning of July means new month-long residencies by Terraplane Sun at The Satellite and The Dig at The Silverlake Lounge. Also, on the east side, Sunset Strip darlings, Queen Caveat, make an appearance at The Satellite on Saturday. Don’t miss it!

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 10/24-10/30

Today I’ve been busy watching the baseball game (Go Cardinals!), grading exams, and trying to ignore this sore throat that’s been building over the last few days. There is just too much going on in my life to get sick! Last week was fairly epic musically. I made it to at least one set a night, saw several of my favorite bands (Imagine Dragons, Harper Blynn, Lakes, etc), and even got in a couple top notch national acts (St. Vincent is a marvel).

This week marks Youngblood Hawke’s last residency date at The Satellite, so if you haven’t caught them yet, don’t miss it (and bring your dancing shoes). It’s also week two of Harper Blynn’s Hotel Cafe residency. I still can’t believe how lucky we are to have these NYC boys with us until Thanksgiving!

Kristen’s NPMT ’10 Mini Mix

As I previously mentioned, I absolutely LOVED attending North Park Music Thing (NPMT) this past weekend down in San Diego. Saturday night was especially euphoric to me as we got the unique opportunity to venue hop, sampling so many bands…and just about every single one fit on my scale somewhere between highly enjoyable and mind blowingly brilliant. So much great new music, it was overwhelming to say the least.

I was inspired to put together a new mini music mix based on the bands and artists we was able to see. Check them out!
