Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 5/20-5/26

I’m noticing how I start off every post talking about the weather. At least, I have been the last few times. In keeping with tradition, the weather is a wonderfully sunny 85 degrees outside. It’s been pleasant all weekend but all I’ve wanted to do lately is sleep. Maybe it’s because I’m finally done with school or maybe it has to do with being out 3 times in a row last week. I have to say that Friday night’s Jimmy Eat World and IAMDYNAMITE show was pretty epic. I’m smitten with IAMDYNAMITE and despite not being super familiar with Jimmy Eat World’s discography, I had a blast watching them play. Such good times. It’s a scorcher outside! Whew! I’m glad I’m safely back inside with the air conditioning on because it’s kind of miserable out in the sun. Misery can easily be relieved if you chose to venture out to a show. With a cold drink in your hand and some tunes for your ears, you should be doing just fine. Unless the place you’re at decided not to turn on any air. I’ve been there. It’s not fun.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/13-5/19

This week is going to be a big week for music. Tuesday I am quite excited to see two sets of brothers, The Kin at The Viper Room followed by Hudson Taylor at The Hotel Cafe. Thursday we have another High Voltage event, this time we are back at one of my favorite venues, On the Rox (bar above The Roxy) and we have DJ High Voltage who is going to be spinning all the tunes I want to hear (dance party!). Finally, next weekend, I am thrilled to say I am a participating in one of the more exciting musical events I’ve uncovered, Overture Con (http://overturecon.com/). Saturday and Sunday night, there are some great bands including personal favorites Queen Caveat, Semi Precious Weapons, and Tournament of Hearts. During the daytime, there are special VIP activities to interact with the artists as well as some killer panels. I am on a panel on Sunday entitled “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of being a Super Music Fan”…boy do I have some stories to share about this topic! Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/6-5/12

It seems that it is Sunday again whether I like it or not. It’s been a good week. Band-wise, I got to see an old favorite (Joe Firstman), a current obsession (Irontom), and  a few new bands that will be making my lists including The Heavy Heavy Hearts and The Last Internationale the latter of whom I saw at my new favorite Thursday event, the Sunset Strip Farmers Market. Music, food, and honey lemonade…definitely worth looking into (http://sunsetstripmarket.com/).

Yesterday was Star Wars day and today Cinco de Mayo so there is a lot to celebrate. Although I did go to a Star Wars party, I spend a good part of it dealing with an email from my boss with the subject line “favor” (never a good thing). I continue the work theme today as I watch Antonioni’s Blow Up with commentary and plan my week ahead.

Lots of good shows next week…too many really. Especially on Thursday. I guess my top picks would to go Tuesday night at The Roxy with Irontom, Dinner and a Suit, and The Parlotones and Stephen Kellogg’s solo appearance at The Hotel Cafe on Sunday. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 4/29-5/5

No, I didn’t get into The Rolling Stones warm up show at The Echoplex on Saturday. As epic as that experience would have been, I honestly had other plans that I was more excited about and seeing SXSW standout’s The Virginmarys at The Viper Room was the highlight of my week!

There have been quite a few last minute shows from major acts lately. Barring any further pop ups, here’s what I’m contemplating this week:

Monday: The Heavy Heavy Hearts FREE at Los Globos (9:45)
ALSO: Jessie Payo and Abbot Kinney FREE at Silverlake Lounge (8, 11)
