Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/13-5/19

This week is going to be a big week for music. Tuesday I am quite excited to see two sets of brothers, The Kin at The Viper Room followed by Hudson Taylor at The Hotel Cafe. Thursday we have another High Voltage event, this time we are back at one of my favorite venues, On the Rox (bar above The Roxy) and we have DJ High Voltage who is going to be spinning all the tunes I want to hear (dance party!). Finally, next weekend, I am thrilled to say I am a participating in one of the more exciting musical events I’ve uncovered, Overture Con (http://overturecon.com/). Saturday and Sunday night, there are some great bands including personal favorites Queen Caveat, Semi Precious Weapons, and Tournament of Hearts. During the daytime, there are special VIP activities to interact with the artists as well as some killer panels. I am on a panel on Sunday entitled “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of being a Super Music Fan”…boy do I have some stories to share about this topic! I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving week. I wish I could be more excited about it, but since people tend to leave LA for the holidays, there aren’t as many show options. I’d like to say that I’ll be spending the extra time off working on my end of year mix and continuing to fill out my SXSW 2013 spreadsheet, but I will mostly likely be playing catch-up at work. I’m actually quite thankful for the opportunity to do this, so hopefully I’ll be able to make the most of it.

I’m also thankful for a couple notable returns to the scene this week. Josh Kelley back at The Hotel Cafe and Nico Vega returning to the stage after what seems like a very lengthy break. Unfortunately, The No Doubt show that Nico Vega is playing sold out before they were even put on the bill…but just knowing they are playing again makes me happy.

Vacation is over. The Olympics are over. All the work I didn’t get done because of vacation and The Olympics is piling up. I was in a pretty dismal state until I looked at my upcoming music calendar. So much to look forward to and keep me going! This week, I’m particularly excited about Birdy at The Roxy on Monday, The Dunwells at The Hotel Cafe Tuesday, and Danielia Cotton at Room 5 on Weds. LMN’s new Band Love, The Neighbourhood, also plays twice this week, Monday at The Echo and Tuesday at The Troubadour. Then, let us not forget that it is Sunset Strip Music Fest (SSMF) week!
