Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 8/13-8/19

Vacation is over. The Olympics are over. All the work I didn’t get done because of vacation and The Olympics is piling up. I was in a pretty dismal state until I looked at my upcoming music calendar. So much to look forward to and keep me going! This week, I’m particularly excited about Birdy at The Roxy on Monday, The Dunwells at The Hotel Cafe Tuesday, and Danielia Cotton at Room 5 on Weds. LMN’s new Band Love, The Neighbourhood, also plays twice this week, Monday at The Echo and Tuesday at The Troubadour. Then, let us not forget that it is Sunset Strip Music Fest (SSMF) week! I’m not exactly in LA his week, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to leave
you all hanging! What show am I most upset about missing? I think it’s a
tie between Monday night at Bardot with Jukebox the Ghost in town and
seeing recent discovery, Thomas Wynn & The Believers for the first time at
Bootleg Bar on Thursday. Then, of course, there is Green Day at The
Echoplex on Monday…

The Olympics have started! I am already completely hooked. I’ve watched swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, beach volleyball, weight lifting, soccer, cycling, dressage, fencing, archery, shooting, rowing, basketball…well you get the picture. I am having a very difficult time pulling myself away enough to do much else. It is going to be difficult to get out to any shows this week and that is really saying something. I wonder if there is some sort of condition to define my predicament…

I’m not a huge fan of music videos or recorded concerts. I like my music in live form. But I must say, the musical highlight of my week was getting in the mail my new Biffy Clyro Live at Wembley CD/DVD made during their Revolutions tour. I popped in the DVD while composing this week’s show list and within one song, I was bouncing around my room in my Mon the Biff t-shirt with that stupid giddy smile plastered across my face. I spent entirely too much money importing this special package, but the unadulterated happiness it has provided is priceless. Now I have to decide where to put my new Biffy Clyro poster…maybe I should obtain a frame…

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 9/3-9/9

Happy Labor Day Weekend (whatever that means to you)! I hope you are all able to get out and enjoy the weekend. As for me, I haven’t seen much of the sun in the last couple of days. I’m trying to get some work done in order to clear my schedule for important events happening over the next few weeks.  Fortunately, my writing companion is Biffy Clyro’s Revolutions: Live at Wembley DVD which helps keep me focused…sometimes.
I did see the blue moon Friday night and I celebrated by going to The Hotel Cafe see one of my favorite bands, Truth & Salvage Co. play a secret show under their former name, The Denim Family Band. This filled me with nostalgia as it was the year I moved to LA that I discovered this band and saw them at The Hotel Cafe numerous times. Ah, memories…
