Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 6/13-6/17

Just got back from Tennessee. The four days spent at Bonnaroo were absolutely magical. I have many a story and I will do my best to post some words and pictures soon.  After Bonnaroo we had a Nashville day spent eating BBQ, avoiding the erratic and intense bouts of rain, checking out a couple local venues, and of course a stop at Cafe Coco. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/28-6/3

I’m not a huge fan of music videos or recorded concerts. I like my music in live form. But I must say, the musical highlight of my week was getting in the mail my new Biffy Clyro Live at Wembley CD/DVD made during their Revolutions tour. I popped in the DVD while composing this week’s show list and within one song, I was bouncing around my room in my Mon the Biff t-shirt with that stupid giddy smile plastered across my face. I spent entirely too much money importing this special package, but the unadulterated happiness it has provided is priceless. Now I have to decide where to put my new Biffy Clyro poster…maybe I should obtain a frame…

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/21-5/27

Just got back from the San Diego Safari Park. Such a fun experience! Two amazing facts I learned today. 1) the cheetahs have canine companions. Seeing the two creatures so disparate in my mind being so chummy was a tad mind blowing. 2) There are only 8 black rhinos in the world. They are all past reproductive age so there will never be more than 8, only less. I saw two of them walking around today. Again, mind blown.

I’m in San Diego for a conference where I will be presenting tomorrow. It’ll be an all-day affair, so I thought I’d get my calendar done and out early. If you’re in LA tonight (Saturday), I’d strongly recommend heading to Molly Malone’s to catch Zane Carney play at 10pm.

ALSO: Rocco Deluca at The Hotel Cafe (9pm)
ALSO: George Stanford at WitZend (10pm)
ALSO: Beck at The El Rey (8pm)

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/14-5/20

After a week of working overtime, I decided to take some time this weekend and go out…twice (*gasp*). I can’t recall the last time I was so happy to see some live music. I almost feel normal again after Friday night’s trip to The Hotel Cafe for The Creepshow and Saturday at The El Rey for Greylag and the amazing Augustana.

More excellent shows this week. I’m especially excited about seeing Seattle rockers Vendetta Red again after about eight years (they’ve been “on hiatus” for the last five). I’ll be in San Diego next weekend for a conference, but if I weren’t, I would definitely be at The Hudson Block party on Sunday. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/7-5/13

I’m finally getting around to watching the 20/20 piece on Sunset Boulevard featuring Queen Caveat. I’ve already seen me rocking out at The Viper Room and front row at The Roxy.  The piece definitely doesn’t put one of my favorite places in LA in the brightest of lights, but I’m certainly craving some Rainbow fries and live music right now.

Not sure if this week will be the week I get out again, but my goodness, there are some amazing shows on the horizon. One of my favorite new artists, Ed Sheeran, is opening for Snow Patrol Tuesday night at The Hollywood Palladium, LMN band love Lakes is at Bootleg Bar Thursday, and former LA resident Jay Nash has shows Weds and Sunday at The Hotel Cafe and Saint Rocke.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 4/30-5/6

This week has been all about paper reading/writing…not a lot of music listening…although there has been some Veronica Mars watching and that show has an excellent soundtrack. Also, I did make it out to The Wiltern Friday night for Ingrid Michaelson. I am a big fan of her latest album, Human Again and, as I anticipated, the new songs translated quite well to an exciting live show. Plus, LMN faves Harper Blynn opened and they are always a treat.

Kristen’s ’11 Mix – Bonus 1 – Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons

Bonus 1. “Never Meant to Love You” – Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons

LMN made the trek to Bonnaroo this summer. This is my favorite festival. From early morning yoga to the late night dance parties, I treasured every moment of my Bonnaroo ’11 experience. I discovered so many great bands (Aunt Martha, The Black Box Revelation, The Kopecky Family Band, Fences, JEFF The Brotherhood), saw several favorites for the first time (Scissor Sisters, Amos Lee, Neon Trees, Freelance Whales, Black Angels, Alberta Cross, Robert Plant), and enjoyed beloved bands like The Decemberists, Emimen, Deas Vail, Mumford & Sons, Nicole Atkins, The Head & The Heart, Band of Skulls, The Black Keys, etc.  Going into the event Corey Chisel and the Wandering Sons were on the top of my list of bands to check out. I ended up seeing them three times. “I Never Meant To Love You” is one of my favorite songs. I couldn’t locate a recorded version, but I tracked this bootleg. Check out the bands album, Death Won’t Send a Letter.
