So excited by what is going on in LA this week, music-wise. One of my new favorite Brit Bands, Leogun have returned to the area playing shows on Tuesday and Thursday. This along with shows from The Ten Thousand, Sabrosa Purr, Rival Tides, We Were Indians, Sad Robot, and of course the three-day Band of Skulls/Muse combo, suggest this will be a great week to rock out. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/14-1/20

Only two weeks into the new year and I already have some new band obsessions. Last Friday’s show at The Hotel Cafe with Red Wanting Blue was the most entertaining and energetic show I’ve been to this year. The Ohio-based band doesn’t come to LA that often, but they had the room in a frenzy. They also have great taste in openers as they selected one of my personal favorites, The Young Romans. Since Friday, I have not been able to stop listening to Red Wanting Blue’s albums…except to listen to a few other recent favorites, The Delta Saints’ Red Letter Jubilee (out this Tuesday!), Mother Mother’s recent release, The Sticks, and European duo Boy’s Mutual Friends.

This year is already so musically bountiful!

This upcoming week looks pretty singer-songwriter heavy for me. I think I’m most excited about Saturday at The Roxy. I mean, how many years has it been since Teddy Geiger appeared on that canceled way too soon TV show about the music talent scout played by Tom Cavanaugh? I was instantly drawn to the show and the young promising talent.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/3-12/9

It has been quite a busy week/weekend. I managed to work at least three 12 hour days last week plus catch some great shows (pictures posted soon to LMN’s facebook page). This weekend, we got the Christmas tree up and trimmed with the help of some lovely elves. Next week has the potential to be epic (you see who’s playing Thursday night at The Satellite, right?), but I worry that this cold I woke up with a couple of days ago might put a damper on things. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 11/19-11/25

I can’t believe it’s Thanksgiving week. I wish I could be more excited about it, but since people tend to leave LA for the holidays, there aren’t as many show options. I’d like to say that I’ll be spending the extra time off working on my end of year mix and continuing to fill out my SXSW 2013 spreadsheet, but I will mostly likely be playing catch-up at work. I’m actually quite thankful for the opportunity to do this, so hopefully I’ll be able to make the most of it.

I’m also thankful for a couple notable returns to the scene this week. Josh Kelley back at The Hotel Cafe and Nico Vega returning to the stage after what seems like a very lengthy break. Unfortunately, The No Doubt show that Nico Vega is playing sold out before they were even put on the bill…but just knowing they are playing again makes me happy.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 11/12-11/18

I got out last week for some music *celebration* and I’m feeling much better about life as a result. I saw a couple artists that I have a long history of seeing and it got me thinking a lot about my past and how many amazing musical moments I have had in my life. After seeing The Kin Thursday night, I went back to my picture and video archives to re-visit some of my fondest memories associated with that band (the first time I saw them, the impromptu performance in an alleyway, the hospital incident, the first night I lived in LA, that SXSW adventure, etc). It all made me feel very lucky and it made me realize that I/we will get through all of these more recent tribulations and the memories most indelible will be the good ones, full of love and friends and music.

I’m going to try to stay focused this week, but still hope to get out a time or two. I am very anxious to see the long awaited return of Parade of Lights who are playing Bootleg Bar on Monday night. My other top pick would be the entire line-up at Room 5 on Weds featuring my favorite lyricist, Dan Wilson. I look at you week and say “let’s do this!”
