Sometimes my week’s musical journey is determined not by who is at the top of the bill, but who is opening. In Color (with Mothica and Wilt) were the reason I ended up at the Jutes show at the Wiltern last Wednesday and then Saturday I was at the Palladium for Dexter and the Moonrocks (but really for Cigarettes @ Sunset and a new band discovery, High June). Tonight I am at the Roxy looking forward to who Charlotte Sands will be introducing me to (looks like more female-fronted rockers – let’s go!).

Lesson: don’t sleep on the openers – they could be your new favorite band.

My top pick next week is Holding Absence & Arm’s Length at the Regent Theater Friday night, but conflicts abound the rest of the week. I will have to listen to some of the openers to decide where I will end up:
