Many of the music venues are turning into comedy houses for the Netflix is a Joke festival. I am using this as an excuse to exit not just the city, but the country and will be checking out all the UK bands in their homeland for the next few weeks. Yesterday I was in Leicester, UK rocking out with The Virginmarys (!!). Today I’m in London gearing up for a week that might include Red Rum Club, Kid Kapachi, Will and the People, and Twin Atlantic celebrating the 10 year anniversary of one of my favorite albums, Free.

Back in LA, I’ve earmarked the musical experiences I would love to attend. I’d particularly recommend Quinn Christopherson who is opening for Thao at Teragram Ballroom on Friday (he was a surprise find at SXSW). We also have a pair of rock duos with cleopatrick (my top 2021 pick) opening for Royal Blood.

Today is the day! I’m in New York City seeing my favorite band, Biffy Clyro, for the first time in 5 years. Since one time is never enough, tomorrow I’m heading to Philly to see the band again. I’m still processing everything from SXSW (top discoveries playlist HERE), but this week I found myself in the middle of another convention, WonderCon, in Anaheim. It was nice to catch up with people in the press rooms that I’d only seen virtually for the last few years, but the event itself felt a little “less than” compared to previous WonderCon experiences. Top moments from the weekend include chatting with the cast of Prime Video’s Undone and my new tea sampler pack of geeky tea blends from Tea & Absinthe. Ever wonder what the different Doctors from Doctor Who would taste like as tea? I can let you know!

The hardest part of being in Anaheim was missing the opportunity to see Irontom open for The Red Hot Chili Peppers in LA Friday night. I will do my best to remedy that next week with shows featuring Sigrid, Lights, Kids in America and more:

I’m back in Los Angeles after a week spent in Austin, TX and I smell like BBQ. SXSW 2022 was everything I’d hoped it would be. I spent time with inspiring people, discovered many exciting new bands and, on my birthday, was at the rail for Dolly Parton who led the room in a round of “Happy Birthday” (not for me, but still, I’m counting it).

More on my new band loves to come, but tonight I’m heading to the Moroccan Lounge to see one of them, Red Rum Club, opening for The Lathums (also great!).
