Feeling a tad overwhelmed, so I’m just going to cut to the chase. We’ve got some pretty great show opportunities this week, starting with Monday night at The Troubadour featuring Zane Carney. I’m particularly excited as this marks a reunion for 3/4^th of one of my all-time favorite bands, Carney. I have a feeling this will be one for the books. I hope everyone had a successful and music-filled Record Store Day this weekend. I celebrated with not one, or two, but three shows from one of my very favorite bands, The Silent Comedy. They played acoustic record store sets Friday night in LA and Saturday afternoon in San Diego. Then Saturday night, the band came back in full rocking form at The Irenic in San Diego. They celebrated the 5 year anniversary of their album, Common Faults, by playing the entire album from front to back. It was a unique and very special occasion.  I am very glad I could be there as the band may not be playing again for a while.

Now I’m going to finish my SD burrito before heading back to LA. I’m looking forward to many shows this week, especially Joe Firstman at The Hotel Cafe Thursday night.

I am finally home from a long but exciting weekend at WonderCon where I was working a small press booth for High Voltage. Highlights from the weekend include a sneak peak at Wayward Pines, The Orphan Black panel, my new boba-tastic t-shirt, meeting so many cool people, and having all sorts of fun with our High Voltage fill in the blank fandom buttons (mine said I was a fan of live music most of the weekend).  All I really want to do right now is go through all my WonderCon goodies, but it’s Sunday so I must spend some time preparing for the sadly cosplay-less week ahead.

Musically speaking, we’ve got some promising shows. I missed Elliott Brood at SXSW, so I’m hoping to catch them at The Satellite this week. Another can’t miss would be the Young Romans record release show Saturday night at The Hotel Cafe.

I tried a new boba establishment today. I went all the way to Little Tokyo to get it, but the brown sugar milk tea was top notch!  It was almost worth the ridiculous drive home fighting all the beach traffic. I guess this is what happens when LA decides to be ridiculously warm in March…sigh. I’m looking forward to next week when the weather (hopefully) cools down a bit. Next weekend is WonderCon in Anaheim. If you’re planning on being there, come visit The High Voltage small press booth. There will be some fun fill in the blank buttons!

As for music, my show pick of the week is Thursday  night at The Hotel Cafe for the Tim Jones record release show. Tim is a member of Truth & Salvage Co., one of my beloved LA bands (before they up and moved to Nashville). The special guest list looks includes Cary Brothers, Scott Kinnebrew, and Leslie Stevens.
