Kristen’s 2014 Mix – Track 2 – Twin Atlantic

Here it is, the mix of songs that helped define my 2014.

Twin Atlantic

I wasn’t sure Twin Atlantic could ever give me an album that came close to 2011’s Free, but this year’s Great Divide lives up to its predecessor. It was the album’s first single, “Heart and Soul” that ultimately made me choose seeing Twin Atlantic at The Troubadour in 2014’s greatest show conflict of the year (something I still don’t want to think about).

Kristen’s 2014 Music Mix – Track 1- The All-American Rejects

Here it is, the mix of songs that helped define my 2014.

All-American Rejects

This might as well be my theme song this year. As I being to make preparations for the next stage of my life, the concept of moving along has come to haunt me. I also saw The All-American Rejects acoustic this year…twice! All the energy of their rock shows + incredibly entertaining story-telling.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/5-1/11

I am looking forward to this week and returning to a more normal show schedule. As much as I’ve enjoyed my evening X-Files watching, I’m beginning to hear Mulder and Scully’s voices in my head which might be fine, but they are usually arguing and that isn’t overly pleasant.

January brings with it some fantastic residencies. It’s the last month for seeing Zane Carney at The Hotel Cafe and as a bonus, Josh Kelley will be playing as well each Monday. Tuesday nights we have Leighton Meester at The Hotel Cafe and every Friday, Jimmy Gnecco at The Viper Room. This Friday will be particularly good as 8MM serves as Gnecco’s opener. This week is also a good one to head to The Satellite, as every night has free entry.

ALSO: Maxim Ludwig at Bootleg HiFi (8:45)

Weds: Bernhoft at The Hotel Cafe (9:30)
ALSO: In The Valley Below, The Bulls, Rose’s Pawn Shop, Dr. Doctor FREE at The Satellite (9pm)

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/29-1/4

I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays. I have filled my music-void with episodes of The X-Files, meals with friends, puzzling, cats, and a few movies. I was largely disappointed by the films I saw in the theater so I’ve now watched Moulin Rouge twice to remind me of what a great film feels like. As a result, I’ve have the Moulin Rouge soundtrack stuck in my head for days. My head radio goes back and forth between those songs and the slowed down version of Sia’s “Chandelier” I heard when I caught up on Selfie (RIP).

People keep asking me about my plans for New Years…I’m just not quite sure yet. I’ve listed some musical options below along with the rest of my picks for the week. My first music list of 2015! I’m looking forward to this year and all the exciting musical adventures it is sure to bring.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/22-12/28

For those wondering, I am working on my annual music mix. Songs have been selected and will be posted on the site soon. Listening to all of my favorite songs from this past year, I noticed that there were a lot of waltzes. Anything in ¾ time, makes me want to get up and dance, so I’d call it a dance record, but I’m sure most people wouldn’t see it that way.

As usual, the week of Christmas is a bit show-lite. Make sure you get out Monday where you’ll have to choose between Zane Carney’s last residency night of the year at The Hotel Cafe and Irontom rocking The Bootleg for The Black and The White’s final December show. Then have a fabulous (hopefully) couple of days off. My plan is to catch up on work and then catch up on some movies.

Monday: The Black and The White with Irontom, Mercies, and Figs Vision FREE at Bootleg Bar (8:30)
ALSO: Haas Kowert Tice and Zane Carney at The Hotel Cafe (7, 9)
ALSO: Say Anything & Saves the Day with Reggie and The Full Effect (6:30)

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/15-12/21

With all the holiday parties last week, I’m beginning to get into the spirit. It also helps that my Charlie Brown-esque Christmas Tree has a present underneath it, and (Merry Christmas to me!) the Beard Papa’s down the street just started selling drinks with boba!

We still have one more full week of shows before the holiday lull. At the end of the week, Royal Machines (formally Camp Freddy) are doing their thing at The Roxy. Sadly, this sold out before I even knew about the name change, but if you were wondering about a Camp Freddy residency this year, there’s your answer.
