This weekend went by quickly, but it was very full. A night in San Diego to see The Silent Comedy, finally procuring a dining room table, two winning baseball games and prepping for another exciting year at San Diego Comic Con were all part of the mix! I’m currently catching up on Supernatural so that I can interview the cast in advance of the final season of one of the longest running (and my favorite) television shows.  It’s going to be a blast!

The downside of being out of town for a week, is not being able to get to all of the local shows. I’m particularly sad about missing another KidEyes set Tuesday night, part of another fabulous We Found New Music showcase at Madame Siam.

Feeling a lot of love today. Finally got out for some live music last night!  Barely coughed at all…only when laughing…which happened a lot, actually…sigh.  Then, this morning, I had the immense pleasure of attending the somewhat impromptu wedding of a dear friend.  It was a small beach affair but full of love and happiness and music!  The lovefest continued this afternoon, walking around my neighborhood which involved more live music, some quality reading time, and a tranquil stroll next to the water.

The official diagnosis is bronchitis. This fun little ditty has kept me in a locked down, feverish state for just about the entire week. I fought through this weekend to go down to San Diego to see the Padres play my beloved Cardinals. This afternoon’s game was terrifically exiting, going into extra innings before a Cards’ win. Prior to the game, I was lucky enough to meet one of my favorite players, Paul DeJong, and not long after the meeting, DeJong was named an All-Star! Coincidence?!? Perhaps…

All the excitement and the incessant coughing has me beat, but hopefully I can muster some energy to get out to a show or two this week. I’m particularly looking forward to Teitur Saturday night at The Hotel Cafe.

I am supposed to be at Bootleg right now getting ready for KidEyes to take the stage, but I woke up this morning with a fever so calling it an early night in. Hoping to be better by Tuesday so I can find a way to see Dido at The Wiltern. Fun Fact: Dido was my first pop concert! Back in high school, my dad drove a friend and I two and a half hours (one way) so I could go to my first proper show. No wonder traveling for music seems an obvious option for me.

I wish people would put warning labels on food that contained onions.  Twice today I’ve had meals ruined, having to read the tiny print ingredient list to find the offending culprit.  Granola and yogurt for dinner it is!

Trivial complaint aside, it’s shaping up to be another great week for music. More UK fare from Sports Team, Yungblud, and Saint PHNX, rockin’ times at The Troubadour with Jamestown Revival and Houndmouth, and another chance to see band love, KidEyes, Sunday night at Bootleg.  And that’s just the start…

I’ve been on a bit of a puzzle kick lately. Last week was women scientists and today I did a puzzle full of owls (both clear signs of my alma mater, Bryn Mawr).  I am now out of new puzzles so I’m on the lookout for some sort of swap.

I was hopeful that next week I would be in London. Sadly, that opportunity never pulled through. To ease the pain, we’ve got plenty of artists next week from England (what timing!).  That list includes Band of Skulls (Mon), Bear’s Den (Tues), Lewis Capaldi (Weds), Bloxx (Thurs), and Maverick Sabre (Fri). This week’s concert calendar is brought to you by the soundtrack of a film, Balance, Not Symmetry.  The film will premiere later this month at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. The soundtrack is entirely Biffy Clyro. That’s right, we’ve basically got a new Biffy Clyro album!  This past week was one of those put on the headphones and blast the very loud and aggressive music kind of week which is how I happily stumbled upon this new offering from my favorite Scottish trio.

Next week brings more tempting shows. I’m particularly excited about Friday night at The Hotel Cafe when Tim Jones (Truth & Salvage Co.) brings his Nashville-based group, Whiskey Wolves of the West, and a few friends that were formerly staples of my LA music life.  We’re going to party like it’s 2009!
