Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 6/6-6/12

SO much to report for next week, so I’ll just jump to that…

Firstly, one of my best concert buddies, Theresa will be in town. We have quite the agenda put together, but her trip revolves around an event she is working Thursday night with SPRAYGUN WAR (Buckcherry side project) who will be throwing an EP release party (check out Theresa’s snazzy press release: https://www.prlog.org/12561069-spraygun-war-debuts-at-forgotten-saints-la.html).

Secondly, I know Saturday is a packed music day, but if you have the time, I’d recommend stopping by NoHo PAC 2-4pm to celebrate the official launch of the non-profit, Music Is Power.  LMN has been a longtime supporter of our friend Ashley and her efforts to combine her skills as a therapist and love of music to make a positive difference on the world and we are very excited to see her take this next step forward. Come see what it’s all about. There will be live music! https://www.facebook.com/events/260343284309760/

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/23-5/29

I had a bucket list experience last week when I was able to go on a personalized tour of the studios at Capitol Records which I found to be a place full of friendly people and fascinating tales. I loved seeing the different recording spaces and learning a bit about the progression of sound engineering over the years. We were also treated to a performance by one of Capitol’s artists, SonReal.

This week is one I’ve been looking forward to for a while now. SXSW 2015 faves, Walking On Cars is FINALLY back in The States. Take a listen to the band’s debut album, Everything This Way, and I’m sure that will be enough to convince you to join me Tuesday night at The Bootleg.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/16-5/22

Instead of thinking about last week with life chapter titles like “Major Life Setback #32”, “How To Fail at Everything” or “The Week My Computer went Red”, I think I’m going to choose “The Great Boba Discovery of Cypress” or maybe I’ll pick something that is a mix between the good and the bad like “Adventures with The Bestie: Bedbug Edition”. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/9-5/15

Yesterday was Comic Book Day. I was going to make a brief appearance at my local shop to pick up some free comics and maybe meet Alan Tudyk, but before I knew it, I had spent half the day in the fair-like environment hobnobbing with artists, comic creators, and other fans.  After enjoying reading hour today with a stack of new comics, I have determined my new favorites to be Junior Braves of the Apocalypse and Finding Molly: An Adventure in Catsitting, the latter of which I just found out can be read as a web comic (yay!).

Now if you’re looking for a music recommendation, I would point you to the new Virginmarys album, Divides. I’ve been listening to this one in my car which is a bit of a hazard if you aim to stay in the speed limit, but definitely good for keeping one awake on the late night drive home from a show.

And, of course, there are the show recommendations:

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/2-5/8

Aside from some choice and morale-saving shows, last week was very much a “no” week. Everywhere I went (or tried to go), I was met with some sort of resistance.  Even the Starbucks where I wanted to try the birthday cake Frappuccino…all out.  Towards the end, I stopped asking questions because I already knew what the answer would be. Hopefully this week will hold a more proportional amount of allowances and denials…and a phone that behaves a little less like an obstinate adolescent.

At least the music will always be there for me. Last week it was Korey Dane, Andrew Watt, a fabulous evening at YouTube Space LA, and the always magnificent Zane Carney.  Next week I’m looking forward to Rooney (and Wild Wild Horses) at Teregarm Ballroom. I’d also highly recommend Gin Wigmore at The El Rey.
