Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 3/3-3/9

YAY Oscars! What a great ceremony. My favorite moment was Bette Midler sang “Wind Beneath My Wings”.  It’s been a weekend of Film ceremonies for me as I spent yesterday backstage at The Film Independent Spirit Awards which was quite thrilling, especially when stars from my favorite movies of the year, Before Midnight and The Spectacular Now, came into the room.

Next up: SXSW. I have one more week to get in all my RSVPs, finalize my schedule, listen to all the bands, and dig up my most comfortable walking shoes. Can’t be at SXSW? Come to the Aussie BBQ on Sunday at Bootleg! Many of the Aussie artists coming to Austin are making the pit stop in LA for this event.

My other show pick this week is The Ataris at The House of Blues. They are re-touring So Long, Astoria 10 years after its release. I saw them on that tour 10 years ago. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 2/24-3/2

The Olympics are ending. The two weeks had their share of triumphs and disappointments, but I’m going to miss watching Curling while eating breakfast, getting incomprehensibly invested in any kind of biathlon or cross-country event, and of course, everything figure skating/ice dancing, especially if it involved my new favorite duo of Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 2/17-2/23

This weekend has been full of excitement. Friday night’s Biffy Clyro show got a bit intense, but it was worth it to see my rocking Scots finally back in LA. I’ve also got a bit of Olympics fever. I’ve watched a little of everything, but that shoot-out from the Russia vs. US hockey game was probably the most thrilling. On top of all that, there are a couple of small dogs running around the apartment, providing an excellent excuse for long walks and rolling around on the floor.

I don’t have so much a show pick this week as I do a venue pick. The Hotel Cafe any night next week will hold at least one act that I absolutely adore. What do I have to do to get a week-long venue pass?

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 2/10-2/16

Last night’s Queen Caveat EP release event was nothing short of epic. I haven’t been to as many shows this year, but somehow I’ve managed to see a fair number of my favorite bands including Queen Caveat, The Silent Comedy, Moon Taxi, Imagine Dragons, Dear Boy, Truth & Salvage Co. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/27-2/2

I spent some time at NAMM this weekend. It was my first NAMM experience, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve concluded that NAMM is just a big networking event. I had a great time running into old friends and making new ones.  I also caught some exciting showcases, picked up some ear plugs to try, and saw many a snazzy guitar, drum, microphone, etc. It was all quite exhausting and my feet are ready to go sit at a desk all next week. Except, of course, for the evenings when we have some fun musical options. Most of my top picks are on Monday. Good luck deciding between Zane Carney at The Hotel Cafe, Vanaprasta’s last residency show with Dear Boy, Andrew Ripp at Bardot, and another excellent round of singer-songwriters at Room 5 for the Monday Monday event.

ALSO: The Lexingtons with The Blue Bird Bandits at Harvard & Stone (9pm)
ALSO: The Soft White Sixties and The Strypes at The Troubadour (8:30, 9:30)
ALSO: Tall Tales & Silver Lining at Los Globos (9pm)

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 1/20-1/26

Last week I finally got to a show in 2014. Moon Taxi at The Troubadour. They made me dance. I am now excited about life again. I hope the fact that it took me 16 days to get to a show isn’t indicative of the year to come. Today I’m heading down to San Diego to see The Silent Comedy, Deadly Birds, and The Heavy Guilt at The Casbah, so that’s a good sign. A couple favorite bands at my favorite San Diego venue. I’m very thankful that Monday is a holiday.

As for the rest of the week, lots of great LA shows. Next Sunday is the last residency date for Austin’s SPEAK at Bootleg Bar. That would be my pick of the week, especially if you haven’t seen them this month already.
