Local Music Nation

I feel like I’ve been out of town at least one weekend per month all summer and the traveling trend continues through the fall as this weekend I find myself in one of my favorite cities, Austin, Texas!  Yesterday held another wedding/family gathering that took place outside of the city. The wedding weekend happily coincided with ACL weekend one and I am not squandering the chance to check out a music festival.

Thursday night was a magical evening with Gang of Youths. Friday’s festival lineup was stacked with fave performances including The Coronas, Sir Sly, The National and round two of Gang of Youths. Today, I’m looking forward to Arctic Monkeys, X Ambassadors and Elle King. Also, more tacos!

Back in LA tomorrow to kick off another great week of music.  Some tough choices on Thursday and Friday, but my one can’t miss is Hudson Taylor at The Hotel Cafe.

It’s been a depressing time for baseball, so this past week I was particularly grateful for the musical escape offered by Nothing But Thieves, Stella Donnelly and two nights of Dear Boy. Seeing a favorite band two nights in a row was a particular treat!  Same band and same venue, but very different experiences.

Next week, another favorite plays a long overdue show.  Thursday night at Bootleg Bar, Parade of Lights makes a return to Los Angeles! I’d be there with bells on except I’m out of town for a wedding.  Thus begins the conflicts and bad timing of October…

After a big week of TV previews at The Paley Center, I’m ready to dive back in with some good music. I’m off to a big start today in San Diego at the Kaaboo music festival! I feel like I’m most looking forward to seeing Jewel who is definitely on that list of artists I’ve listened to obsessively but have never seen.  I’ll also be rocking out with Vista Kicks and The All-American Rejects.  Still not sure what I’m going to do about the headliner situation (Katy Perry vs. Robert Plant).  We’ll see where my mood takes me!

Playing the rest of the week by ear as well, but out of town faves like NEEDTOBREATHE, Carbon Leaf, and Lincoln Durham all make compelling offers.
