Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar 10/2-10/8

This weekend made my baseball-loving heart very happy. I was able to see one of the very last Cardinal’s games of the year…in St. Louis!  Not only did they win, but it was done in an exciting come-back fashion.  It was such a thrill to be rooting for the home team.  On top of that, the game’s giveaway was a bobblehead of my favorite former player AND I finally got a replacement hat for the really disgusting one I wore out years ago (but still wear).  My only quibble is with the merchandise selection. Why don’t they sell players jerseys or shirts in women’s sizes?!?  After a painstaking internal debate, I had finally settled on the name I wanted only to go to the store to find that the smallest size available was rather tent-like.

In addition to all things baseball, my weekend was filled with family, steakburgers, and frozen custard (the other reasons I come to Missouri).  But, as always, I am looking forward to getting back to LA, my mecca for musical adventures.  Next week holds a few promising ones, including Friday night with The Arkells and Irontom at The Roxy. To tie it all together, I did wear an Irontom shirt to the baseball game and got several people to inquire about it. I’ll call that another win!

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 9/25-10/01

I love the friends that I make by going to shows. This weekend, I had the pleasure of celebrating the marriage of two such friends. The wedding was in San Luis Obispo and the whole weekend felt a bit like a relaxing vacation.  We drove up the PCH (what a view!), made it to a farmer’s market and a drive-in movie (my first!), and explored a bit of downtown SLO (including SloDoCo Donuts).  The highlight, however, had to be going to the apple orchard in between the wedding ceremony and reception and picking apples from the trees in formalwear. The locals were very complimentary.

It’ll be a short music week for me as I’m taking off for another out of town adventure on Thursday, but I’ll be cramming in as many live tunes as possible before I leave including a very highly anticipated Mondo Cozmo show Tuesday night at The El Rey.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 9/18-9/24

I was looking forward to finally having a weekend at home, but then a coworker offered me a pass to KAABOO in San Diego. I tried banging my head on my desk until a “no, thank you” came out of my mouth, but I found myself incapable of even mouthing the words so down to San Diego (again) I went. Yesterday, I rocked out with Garbage, Jared & The Mill, Armors, and Pink (!!) and today my schedule is highlighted by The Shadowboxers, The Cordovas, and Alanis Morrissette. I’m also having an absolute blast with my KAABOO-boos. I’ve never been to a festival with so many friends before…

A couple other things of note:

Have you heard the big radio news??? One of the best LA stations for discovering new music, KCSN (88.5) has merged with KSBR to extend the station’s broadcasting range (no more losing signal on those long drives!). Sky Daniels hosted a celebratory event Thursday at The Village Studios and I was incredibly privileged to attend. I poked around the historic studio space looking for evidence of Biffy Clyro before watching Gary Clark Jr. play his dirty rock version of The Beatles’ “Come Together” (and a few other tunes).

This week, YouBloomLA, the music summit and festival, is happening Thursday-Saturday. Come for the informative music chat, stay for the live music at various locations around town. For more info: http://www.youbloom.com/youbloomla-2017/#sp

Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 9/11-9/17

I just got back from Vegas after spending the weekend eating, sleeping, and dancing. I was at the Mix 94.1 Bite of Vegas shindig where I made new friends, ate some good food, and got to dance to Vertical Horizon, Eve6, LeAnn Rimes, Rachel Platten, and Neon Trees!! I did miss Sean Hook, which is a bummer but the whole event was absolutely lovely! I’d totally go back again.

This weekend we have Kaaboo, which should be a blast! I can decide who I’m looking forward to seeing more… Pink or Alanis Morissette. I haven’t seen Alanis but Pink is such a badass and I’ve only seen her once. Thankfully they don’t have conflicting set times! Small favors. There’s some other cool stuff to get into this week as well. Let’s check it out….

Monday: Kimmi Bitter & The Night Howls @ Soda Bar at 9pm
AND: Elk Grove, Avenue Army, Mainsail @ The Merrow at 9pm

Tuesday: Goo Goo Dolls, Phillip Phillips @ Cal Coast Credit Open Air Theater at 7:30pm
AND: The Night Game, Nightly, Well Well Well @ Casbah at 9pm

AND: Ásgeir, Ethan Gruska @ Belly Up at 8pm
AND: Lovemakers @ Casbah at 9pm

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 9/11-9/17

I’ve got “Golden” from Parade of Lights stuck in my head (I just returned from seeing them at The Echo).  This makes it very difficult to sit and concentrate as I just want to get up and dance.  This weekend was quite full of music that makes you move. Saturday, I was at the Indie Jam Festival in Oceanside which included the jaw-droppingly amazing lineup of The Wrecks, Dreamers, Magic Giant, Sir Sly, and Misterwives. I danced with them all!

Next week doesn’t really slow down in the body-grooving department. We’ve got The Wrecks playing School Night (if you haven’t seen these guys, this is the perfect opportunity), Stone Foxes at Bootleg, The Shadowboxers at The El Rey, and Frank Turner at The Orpheum. All I can say about this week is wear comfy shoes!
