Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 7/17-7/23

Well this week is Comic Con!! I’m super excited to be attending as per usual. They have some great musically inclined panels about everything from soundtracks to the “Musical Anatomy of a Superhero” and voice over. It should be an exciting but exhausting week. I’m hoping I’ll have enough energy to muster for the Creature & The Woods headlining show at the Casbah on Saturday. I doubt I’ll be able to fit in that much music this week so you’ll have to make it out for me…

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 7/17-7/23

I am currently at war with a fan. The fan has decided that it wants to squeak and I have decided to take issue with that. So far, the battle score is fan: 1, me: 1. It took a couple of tries, but my latest attempt using WD-40 seems to have at least reduced the noise from a loud and constant scream to an occasional chirp.  I’m calling that one a win, but I’m not sure that the war is over quite yet.

We’ll have to press pause the battling next week as I will be in San Diego to cover Comic Con as part of team High Voltage.  While I am away, be sure to get out to some shows for me. I had the privilege of seeing Wrabel last week and he is one of those artists whose live show will blow any recording out of the water. Don’t miss him at The Hotel Cafe Wednesday night.

Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 7/10-7/16

The last few days were spent napping and binge watching television after “beating the heat” to the barn. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 7/10-7/16

I’m feeling sluggish in the face of this heat wave.  As such, I wasn’t planning on leaving that spot on my floor where the cross breeze from my fan system hits just right, but somehow Saturday night I found myself at The Troubadour for King Washington’s album release event. I walked into the venue to a greeting of “welcome home” and was immediately grateful for more than just the building’s air conditioning. Although, the AC will be a great excuse to get out for some music next week. I think I’m most looking forward to seeing UK’s Bones rock the roof off at Bardot for It’s a School Night.

On a different note, as we gear up for another year of Comic Con, High Voltage just announced our new Patreon page. If you’re interested in getting more behind the scenes scoop of our music coverage or getting involved with what we cover on the site or if you just want to support a creative endeavor, check it out: https://www.patreon.com/high_voltage

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 7/3-7/9

This weekend, I passed a very important milestone in the getting over a cold progression when I went to the movies (an actual theater, where the threat of a film-interrupting coughing fit was very real).  But with water in hand, and a few cough drops in the back pocket, I successfully made it through a screening of Wonder Woman. I enjoyed it SO much that the next day I went back to the theater to see Baby Driver.  Both movies had their merits, but the way music helped create the very fabric of the film gave Baby Driver the edge in my book.

With the 4th of July holiday, the beginning of next week looks pretty light, music-wise, but the prospect of a free Barns Courtney show on Weds will help get me through the fireworks.

I’ve spent the rest of the weekend hiding inside from this crazy heat. This week is a pretty chill one, except for today. I think that means you should all be out hiking or at the beach.
