Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/21-12/27

This calendar comes to you from Crystal City, Missouri. Saturday, my extended family celebrated Christmas. There were quite a few people buzzing about my grandparents’ house, most of whom I hadn’t seen in five years.  It was nice to catch up with everyone and meet all the new additions. Live music withdrawal hasn’t set in yet, but I imagine by the end of my trip I will be suffering. Not that being in LA this week would be terribly helpful as due to the holiday, my show calendar is on empty side. Don’t miss all the shows on Monday. If I were in town, I’d be at Bardot seeing Jared & The Mill and Tall Tales and The Silver Lining.

Here’s what else I was able to come up with:

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/14-12/20

This weekend I certainly felt the holiday spirit. Friday night got the ball rolling with the always fabulous HoHoHotel Cafe Holiday party where I saw a few favorites and discovered some great new talent (Freddie & Francine have moved to the top of my must see list). Saturday, after a full day of learning at The YouBloom LA Conference (bookmark this event for next year!), I drove down to San Diego to see Dear Boy’s debut at The Casbah and am now about to head to The Forum for night 2 of KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas. To say it’s been a full and exciting weekend would be an understatement.

Next week, the holiday lull begins to set in so get out and see some shows while you can. Top pick for me would be Friday night at The Hotel Cafe with Anthony Beliveau (of The Crash Kings) and friends.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/7-12/13

Getting through the list of announced SXSW artists has been somewhat slow going, but I’m glad I made it to Sara Hartman’s name before she came to town last week.  The Berlin-based artist inspired at Bardot Monday night. There is not much better than seeing a great new artist for the first time…

Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 11/30-12/6

It’s technically Monday morning as I’ve started drafting this post. My head and soul are currently not really in my body, I’m afraid they are still at the Belly Up, reliving the James Bay show. Tonight/last night was really really special. I got to take a friend to see James Bay who had never seen him live before. We were literally upfront and only a few feet away from him, no barrier. I made new friends. The whole set was magical and although he played for over an hour, it felt entirely too short. I’d like to just live in that space for awhile. But, I do feel obligated to let you know this weeks coming attractions…

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 11/30-12/6

Now that’s it’s officially the Christmas season, I’ve started working more fervently on my end of year music mix. Based on yesterday, however, I’m worried I won’t have enough time to get it done. I was debating which Dark Waves song I wanted to include and then ended up listening to my Dark Waves EP on repeat all day…and never quite reached a conclusion on song choice.

This week, a surprising number of bands are giving us options by playing multiple days. The Dandy Warhols, Gary Clark Jr., Amiee Mann and Ted Leo, and Johnnyswimm are all playing two or three times! How considerate! My show pick, however, will go to Thursday night at The Troubadour. Three stellar bands including one of my favorites from SXSW, Hamish Anderson.  This guy knows how to play a guitar!
