Kristen’s 2015 Music Mix – Track 3 – Meg Myers

2015 was not the best of years, but it certainly had its moments…most of the good ones involved music. Here are a few of the songs that had an impact on my year.

Another very highly anticipated debut album, Meg MyersSorry was released this year. I first heard the album’s title song at a festival in San Diego and it was an instant classic, capturing all that I love about Meg Myers’ brand of visceral rock. I was only able to see Meg once since the release of the album, but she continues to dominate the stage putting on one of the most emotionally compelling performances.

Walking on Cars were my band of SXSW 2015 and stuck with me for the rest of the year. They became one of my High Voltage features and one of my more successful recommendations. “Hand in Hand” was a song I used to lure one of my most passionate music friends into the Walking On Cars fold. I can’t wait for this band’s debut album to come out next year.

Kristen’s 2015 Music Mix – Track 1 – AWOLNATION

2015 was not the best of years, but it certainly had its moments…most of the good ones involved music. Here are a few of the songs that had an impact on my year.

Awolnation returns! Aaron and Co exploded back onto the scene with a new album, Run. The album’s title track may not be my favorite on the album (so hard to choose), but it is the greatest introductory track you could ask for. I got to see the band quite a few times this year, including one particularly memorable bootie-shaking experience in Pomona which was preceded by interviewing Aaron on the band’s spaceship freezer of a bus.

Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 12/21-12/27

I seem to be stuck with this evolving cold/sinus thing. Just when I think I’ve kicked the stupid thing, it comes back again. Maybe that’s because I go out when I’m feeling good and I probably should have just stayed home instead. I can thank my mom for that gene. This week wasn’t as action packed as last week, which I’m actually happy about. I had my last day of art class on Tuesday so my brain will probably be pretty happy about that but I will miss the class and the people. The other thing missing this week is anything resembling a usual concert calendar due to the holiday. It’s slim pickings out there folks so instead have a happy holiday with friends and loved ones.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/21-12/27

This calendar comes to you from Crystal City, Missouri. Saturday, my extended family celebrated Christmas. There were quite a few people buzzing about my grandparents’ house, most of whom I hadn’t seen in five years.  It was nice to catch up with everyone and meet all the new additions. Live music withdrawal hasn’t set in yet, but I imagine by the end of my trip I will be suffering. Not that being in LA this week would be terribly helpful as due to the holiday, my show calendar is on empty side. Don’t miss all the shows on Monday. If I were in town, I’d be at Bardot seeing Jared & The Mill and Tall Tales and The Silver Lining.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/14-12/20

This weekend I certainly felt the holiday spirit. Friday night got the ball rolling with the always fabulous HoHoHotel Cafe Holiday party where I saw a few favorites and discovered some great new talent (Freddie & Francine have moved to the top of my must see list). Saturday, after a full day of learning at The YouBloom LA Conference (bookmark this event for next year!), I drove down to San Diego to see Dear Boy’s debut at The Casbah and am now about to head to The Forum for night 2 of KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas. To say it’s been a full and exciting weekend would be an understatement.

Next week, the holiday lull begins to set in so get out and see some shows while you can. Top pick for me would be Friday night at The Hotel Cafe with Anthony Beliveau (of The Crash Kings) and friends.

ALSO: Chvrches at The Fonda (9pm)

Tuesday: Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats at The El Rey (9pm)
ALSO: Max and the Moon, Kid Cadaver at The Echo (8pm)
ALSO: Fairground Saints at The Hotel Cafe (9pm)

Weds: The Best Holiday Show Ever! at Room 5 f. Jesse Thomas, Terra Naomi, Joel Eckels, Sweet Talk Radio and many more (8pm)
