Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 3/2-3/8

Hello from a very rain soaked San Diego. I’m really enjoying this grey weather as long as I’m not actually in it. What is it about the rain that brings out the very worst driver in everyone? Also, I managed to get out to the barn just in time for a huge thunderstorm to roll in. Thankfully I was able to hide under a horse shelter until it passed and managed to avoid drowned rat status, although my hair is starting to reach Hermione Granger status.

I was out a few times last week for shows and had a lovely time. This weekend was spent visiting with friends from out of town at Disneyland and California Adventure. I even dressed up for Dapper Day yesterday. This week is full of more adventures while we count down the time to SXSW.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 3/2-3/8

Last week was full of musical adventures. I heard new music from Dead Sara and Taylor Locke, discovered a great new band (San Francisco’s The Family Crest), and saw one of my favorites (Dear Boy). I also had the extreme pleasure of seeing The Matches, a band who went on hiatus years ago before I had the chance to see them live. That was an evening I will not soon forget. An added bonus was that most all of the events I attended last week were on the early side giving me more time for important things like sleeping and post-show hangs with friends.

There are more great show opportunities next week. If you’re really lucky, you scored a ticket to The Troubadour Tuesday night to see Brandi Carlile. I can’t stop listening to her new song, “The Eye”.

Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 2/23-3/1

Well, I actually made it out to a show last week. I know, shocker. I went to the Casbah to catch the first show from new band Wars and see The Young Wild for the first time. I’m glad I made it out but it just reminds me how I’m not in show shape anymore. Yes, it’s a specific kind of “shape” you have to be in. Or I’m just getting older. One of the two.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 2/23-3/1

Oscar Sunday! I’m excited. Boyhood was one of my favorite films of 2014 and it’s not every year that one of my faves gets nominated. My other top films of 2014 were Only Lovers Left Alive, Obvious Child, and Locke. 2014 also had a few great movies about music. I loved Whiplash although it hit so close to home that  I spent much of the movie hiding behind my jacket. I also enjoyed Begin Again, but it didn’t quite live up to its director’s predecessor, one of my all-time favorites, Once. Finally, one music related movie you might not have seen is William H Macy’s directorial debut, Rudderless. This story about a father connecting with his deceased son through the son’s music had heart, a thought-provoking twist, and a cameo by Ben Kewller.

I’m still recovering from being sick, so I haven’t been going out much, but I’m hoping to get out a time or two this week. I’m especially looking forward to Dear Boy playing Bardot Wednesday night. I’ve also heard Taylor Locke’s new album, Time Stands Still, and it really makes me want to get out Friday to see him play downtown’s trendy new music spot, Mrs. Fish.  Both shows are free so I’d love to see you there!
