Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 01/12-01/18

Tony Lucca wrote a new song for the occasion of his final show at the Hotel Cafe, Cahuenga location and, as “Adios, Cahuenga” came to a bridge that was a list of artists that have grown from that scene, my eyes started watering as the memories of my last 18 years of going to shows in this sacred space flashed before my eyes.

I have a feeling this is a sentiment I’ll be sharing a lot in the venue’s remaining months.

Next on my list of can’t miss shows is Dear Boy Friday night at Zebulon. This is the band’s postponed show from the fall when they released their second album, Celebrator. It’s also singer Ben Grey’s birthday party which is one more reason to celebrate.

I realize this is a cliché thing to say, but I can’t believe the year is over. I feel like I’ve done a lot and also nothing at all. Do any of you feel the same? I know I was fortunate enough to travel way more than I usually do each year for birthdays, bands, Broadway, and chef cruises alike, but I also feel like I’ve done a lot of nothing. I think at the end of the year, it’s normal to look back and: a) think about where the year went, b) what you accomplished (or didn’t), c) what you learned, and d) what you took away from this year to take into the next. I was pondering this today more so than normal and I’m not sure I’d change a thing, which is something I’m really proud of. I think we all should be proud of ourselves at the end of the year because we made it through and did the best we could. That’s really all anyone can ask for, right?

Things have slowed down for Christmas week as people enter that weird end of year bubble. I am on a mission to squeeze in at least one more show so that I can hit 200 for the year. I’ve also started working on my 2025 Music Mix which features a surprising number of artists that I have not seen live this year…I may need to make some alterations. More on that next week. In the meantime, Happy Holidays!
