Happy Sunday! It’s a long weekend for most people (Happy Memorial Day!) and it’s been a sunny and lazy one at that. I just finished eating some horrible food (I’m blaming my healthy eating habits this week. Moderation, right?) and am currently enjoying the activity of doing nothing. I’m not a huge fan of music videos or recorded concerts. I like my music in live form. But I must say, the musical highlight of my week was getting in the mail my new Biffy Clyro Live at Wembley CD/DVD made during their Revolutions tour. I popped in the DVD while composing this week’s show list and within one song, I was bouncing around my room in my Mon the Biff t-shirt with that stupid giddy smile plastered across my face. I spent entirely too much money importing this special package, but the unadulterated happiness it has provided is priceless. Now I have to decide where to put my new Biffy Clyro poster…maybe I should obtain a frame…

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/21-5/27

Just got back from the San Diego Safari Park. Such a fun experience! Two amazing facts I learned today. 1) the cheetahs have canine companions. Seeing the two creatures so disparate in my mind being so chummy was a tad mind blowing. 2) There are only 8 black rhinos in the world. They are all past reproductive age so there will never be more than 8, only less. I saw two of them walking around today. Again, mind blown.

I’m in San Diego for a conference where I will be presenting tomorrow. It’ll be an all-day affair, so I thought I’d get my calendar done and out early. If you’re in LA tonight (Saturday), I’d strongly recommend heading to Molly Malone’s to catch Zane Carney play at 10pm.

After a week of working overtime, I decided to take some time this weekend and go out…twice (*gasp*). I can’t recall the last time I was so happy to see some live music. I almost feel normal again after Friday night’s trip to The Hotel Cafe for The Creepshow and Saturday at The El Rey for Greylag and the amazing Augustana.

More excellent shows this week. I’m especially excited about seeing Seattle rockers Vendetta Red again after about eight years (they’ve been “on hiatus” for the last five). I’ll be in San Diego next weekend for a conference, but if I weren’t, I would definitely be at The Hudson Block party on Sunday. I discovered some great bands there last year and the food was delicious.

What an eventful week I’ve had. From last night’s shoot of Portugal. The Man to shooting Sara Watkins earlier this week, it’s been a good one.
