Local Music Nation

In my travels over the weekend, I stumbled upon a German deli where I picked up some gummies, jam, and Christmas chocolates. If anyone can tell me why German gummies are superior to all other gummies, please let me know. I feel like this would make an excellent topic of conversation for Sad Songs Comedy Hour hosted by the Milk Carton Kids and taking place this Monday at Largo. Special guests include John C. Reilly and Mae Martin.

I am very pleased this week with my purchase of the Club Pass for the Hollywood Palladium. By the end of this week, I could very well make it to the Palladium 6 times in 8 days. For those who don’t have a pass into a venue, next week presents some very difficult choices, particularly Tuesday night where we have some promising LA bands (Kong., Kids in America, Cami Petyn) vs rising UK artists Alife Templeman & Thomas Headon vs. a few of my favorites (Barns Courtney, Butch Wallker, and Matt Maeson). As another Rocktober comes to a close, I’d like to think that I really understood the assignment catching nearly 80 bands this month, most of them solidly in the rock genre. Moments that really stood out include my first Enter Shikari experience, the celebration of Dear Boy’s first full length album, and revisiting my youth at the When We Were Young festival. Also, I must give a special shoutout to Royal & The Serpent who kept popping up on various stages, often as a featured artist, making me more excited for her show at the Troubadour next month.

Next week, I’m particularly excited for some of the “small print” artists opening for others, particularly Sydney Sprague and Joe P (formally of Deal Casino).
