I am spending the weekend walking dogs and catching up on movies. There were some decent films in 2021, beautifully shot with particularly fun supporting characters/actors. I’m catching up on some of the award-nominated films, but honestly my favorite movie of the year is still The Matrix Resurrection which I appreciate more and more with each re-watch.

I’m guessing next week will just bring more movie-watching, but if I decide to venture out for some music, here are my top picks:

Ready or not, 2022 here we come! I’ve spent a lot of time in the last few days listening to music but focusing on older tunes rather than new music or up and coming artists.  Spending time in past years instead of this new one has been calming. There is more anxiety around music these days, especially seeing it live.  Every day you have to ask yourself questions like Is the show still happening? or Is it safe? Then there is the strategizing: Should you go to the show on Monday or skip it to ensure you’ll be good to go to the show on Thursday? I’m hoping as we get further into the year these questions will become easier to answer.

I hope everyone is taking the time to enjoy their respective holidays! Mine was super low key and involved a Harry Potter movie marathon and Chinese food. Not at all mad about it. Big milestones include driving around for an hour and spending two hours at the barn before all the rain. I’m looking forward to the new year with some new shows and a healed spine.

I can’t believe 2021 is over this week!! Completely blows my mind that another year has already gone. Despite ending the year with surgery and being mostly stuck in bed, I had some pretty big highlights! Highlights include but aren’t limited to; two rounds with The Silent Comedy at Petco Park, The Milk Carton Kids at the Belly Up, Almost Monday at the Music Box, Badflower at multiple locations, The Wrecks birthday week, Chainfest at Five Points, Colony House (!!!) at the Belly Up, Brad Paisley (bucket list artist!), multiple Dear Boy shows, Dead Sara at the Roxy, Plague Vendor at the Casbah, and I’m sure there are others in there too. Whew. Bring it on 2022!

I can’t believe the end of the year is upon us already. Well, we technically have one week left but it’s basically the end. I’m not entirely sure where the year went, I’m fairly sure it’s still 2020. Or maybe I’m mentally stuck in 2018 even though I’d love to go back to 2010, musically speaking. Either way, I might be ending my year mostly stuck in bed but I’m always thankful for a few key highlights from the year. I’m not going to wax poetic in this post since there’s still one more week left in 2021. I’ll save that for my next post.

It’s a holiday week so shows are super light on the ground, like snow in San Diego. Go hug a friend.
