New Music Tuesday 8/14/12

Looking for new tunes? Here are my listening suggestions for albums coming out this week:

The Dirty Guv’nahs –   Somewhere Between These Southern Skies

One of my favorite discoveries from Bonnaroo this year was The Dirty Guv’nahs.  I’ve been loving the single, 3000 Miles, and from what I’ve heard so far, the rest of the album delivers more of that southern rock sound I enjoy. This album is a must on my list.

Charlie Mars – Blackberry Rain

Listening to the first song off this album, I am captivated…

The Classic Crime – Phoenix

When browsing through the new releases for this week, The Classic Crime, jumped out at me. I haven’t heard from this Seattle rock band in a couple years, but I’ve been a fan for a while and I can’t wait to hear what they have been up to. I’m skimming through the podcasts they have up on bandcamp and hearing much potential in the tantalizing tidbits of music.

Yellowcard – Southern Air

This year there has been a bit of a resurgence of Yellowcard in my life. The band played a couple acoustic tunes at the Warped Tour kickoff party at Club Nokia and then I saw them again at Warped Tour where they played songs off Ocean Avenue and reminded me why I was in love with that album. Yellowcard still holds a place in my heart and I’m looking forward to hearing more of their signature brand of California punk-pop laced with electric violin (forever and always my favorite aspect of Yellowcard).

Here’s the lead-off track from Southern Air. I like it!

Listen! Learn! Love!

Hanson’s 12 hour SXSW4Japan Benefit: Album now Available!

So many things were going on in Austin the week of SXSW that it’s impossible to do/see/even know about it all. One thing I was tangentially aware of was Hanson’s efforts to raise money for those in Japan suffering from the tsunami fallout. Apparently the brothers put together a fundraiser in less than 24 hours that brought in over $100,000 worth of donations for the Red Cross.  The fundraiser was in the form of a telethon that took place on the last Saturday of SXSW and featured so many wonderful artists coming in and giving exclusive performances that were then streamed live.

Sxsw4japan.org is re-streaming the performances RIGHT NOW!: http://sxsw4japan.org/

Even more exciting, ITunes and Amazon.com are now selling a digital album called SXSW4Japan featuring nearly 50 tracks from the artists that participated. All proceeds are going to the Red Cross.

So, what are you waiting for? GO and get it!

Some of my favorite artists featured include: Hanson, The Lonely Forest, Cary Brothers, The Boxer Rebellion, Laura Jansen, Alpha Rev, Jenny O, Keaton Simons, Anna Nalick, The Parlotones, Kina Grannis, Michelle Branch, and Rooney…but there are SOOOOOO many more!
