I hope you all have a great Christmas! I’m not really looking forward to three days of no live music, but I certainly have enough to do to fill the time. If you are on my mailing list, expect a little present later today or tomorrow!!

Speaking of gifts, if you’d like to do something for me, might I suggest helping out some worthy musicians, Danish indie synth-pop trio terminal, in their Pledge Music Campaign. terminal and their music came into my life last fall when I was going through some difficult times and listening to them really helped get me through. I’ve become a big fan and would love to see them succeed in their goal of raising funds to record some music. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/17-12/23

Last week was a blur of holiday parties, sleepless nights, and dwarves. Saturday night, I attended the annual Hotel Cafe Holiday party and after hearing the gentlemen of Broken Anchor do their traditional Christmas rap followed by Cary Brothers and Harper Blynn merging their talents on what might now be my new favorite rendition of “O Holy Night”, it officially feels like The Holiday Season! Now, if only I could get some elves over to finish up my Christmas gifts, I’d be all set!

This week hosts another Holiday tradition, Camp Freddy at The Roxy. Instead of every Friday in December, this year the super group + unknown special guests are doing three nights in a row this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I can’t wait to see what surprises are in store for us this year.

The other must-see this week is Tuesday at The Hotel Cafe. This marks the last night of Harper Blynn’s residency. If you haven’t gotten around to seeing this amazing band, this is your last chance. DO IT!

In the middle of a bit of a work-crisis, so I’ll keep this short. Actually this whole week has kind of been one work crisis after another…and sadly I do not see the end. I did get out Wednesday night to check out rocksters, Leogun, and I am pleased to report I have a new band love from the UK.

Speaking of recent band discoveries, I have a few this week I’d really like to see. Sad Robot continues their Silverlake Lounge residency Monday night and then my favorite band from Culture Collide, Denmark’s terminal, has a show Thursday night also at Silverlake Lounge. And if we’re talking about can’t miss shows, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers are making their last stop in the LA area before they go on an indefinite hiatus (one of my least favorite word combos). Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 10/8-10/14

I’m nearly done with the Culture Collide madness that has consumed the last several days. Today’s block party marks the end of this glorious event which, I must say, is the most fun I’ve had at a festival since SXSW…I think it’s the people. Everyone I’ve met and chatted with has been lovely and the vibe is friendly and music-centric. The festival also gives me a chance to see international acts I might not be exposed to otherwise. My favorites thus far have been the Danish band, terminal, Toronto’s The Balconies, Ewert and The Two Dragons from Estonia, and Scotland’s Admiral Fallow who is, I believe, the first band I’ve encountered that uses my favorite instrument, the clarinet, in their live performance.

Moving on to next week, here is my list of shows I’d love to attend. Top picks would have to go to Canada’s Reignwolf (Jordan Cook) who plays two shows this week and Leogun from London who plays a free show Wednesday at The Satellite. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 10/1-10/7

Too much. There is just too much going on this week. I could live at The Wiltern and see Ed Sheeran, Foxy Shazam, The Head and The Heart and Jason Mraz all in one week! It’s also a good week to be on the East Side for one of the most fun (and most affordable) music festivals, Filter’s Culture Collide (http://culturecollide.com/). There are some out of country bands playing I’ve been wanting to see for years! And Let’s not forget the usual amount of greatness featured at The Hotel Cafe…the start of October residencies from Harper Blynn and The Young Romans, an intimate Laura Marling show. I could live at that venue as well. Even considering all of that, my show pick for the week would have to be The Milk Carton Kids Thursday night at Largo. If you’ve ever seen this captivating duo, you’d know why.
