Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 6/4-6/12

You’ll notice this week’s list is a bit…elongated. Well, that’s because I’ll be at Bonnaroo over the weekend without internet.  I don’t think I’m even going to take my computer (gasp).  I’ll be back Tuesday and hopefully fill you in on everything. In the meantime, there are a couple acts I’d really recommend checking out this week. If you didn’t manage to snag tickets to one of Ben Howard’s two sold out shows at The Troubadour, the English singer-songwriter and one of my SXSW mix picks, will also be doing a free show at Amoeba Records on Monday.

Another treat this week is that Joe Firstman is in town with The Cordovas. They are playing several shows. Today (Sunday) at The Franklin Village Festival, Tuesday at The Hotel Cafe, and Wednesday at Saint Rocke. Who knows when Joe will be back, so I wouldn’t miss out!

I survived the weekend in the desert. I think my body is still recovering from the shock of not being in the 100+ degree weather. I’m hoping to write up a post featuring the highlights of my Coachella experience and some pictures. One of my favorite bands of the weekend was We Are Augustines and they are playing a free show tonight at Bardot for It’s a School Night along with the wonderful LP.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar 4/9-4/15

Happy Easter everyone! It’s a time for rebirth and I certainly feel like my life is changing. I have this horrible feeling like the decisions I make in the next couple of weeks will have a profound influence on the rest of my life. At Easter mass, I prayed for the strength to make the right choices. Currently I’m failing at boiling some eggs for dying so clearly my prayers have not been heard quite yet.

Friday night, I was lucky enough to be at The Bootleg Theater to watch Garbage “rehearse” for their upcoming tour. Shirley Manson and company are still on top of their game, rocking out a lengthy set list of Garbage hits as well as a couple new tunes from their forthcoming record. Yesterday was all about intense SXSW preparation. I spend the entire day diligently going through all the party lists and band schedules to put together my best approximation of a game plan. Then I went out to see some amazing bands and got no sleep (I guess another form of preparation?). I hope to get together a list of my top picks posted soon. New Music Tuesday 2/14 Featuring Imagine Dragons and The Other Side of Morning

Yeah, I know this is a bit late, but, you know…better than never. There are a few releases today that I’d really like to turn your attention to.

Imagine Dragons – Continued Silence EP

Imagine Dragons have been on my Band Love list for a couple of years now. It’s easy to fall in love with a band that puts on such an energetic and engaging live show. The past year has brought a lot of changes for the band including a record deal with Interscope. The Continued Silence EP is the first music to come out of this deal and I’m incredibly anxious to see how the band has grown and changed musically. Watch this video to learn a bit more about the band and hear their song “It’s Time” from the new EP and if you’re in LA, be sure to come out to The Viper Room Feb. 22nd to catch the band in action.

The Other Side of Morning– Letters From Your Love, The Madman

LMN and The Other Side of Morning go way back to our first official band interview. I’ve been keeping track of this band ever since and am SO excited that their CD, Letters From Your Love, The Madman is finally available via amazon and itunes. I’m am currently listening to the CD and waiting for my ride to The Roxy where the band is playing tonight to celebrate this release. It will be a fantastic line-up with The Other Side of Morning along with Toy, Shawn Hook, and  Jane Carrey. Show starts at 8pm!
