Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 8/26-9/1

This week’s calendar was a bit difficult for me to put
together because I couldn’t quite accept the fact that next Sunday is the start
of September. You might noticed that my Sunday is a bit blank. Honestly (and I apologize
for this) flipping those venue calendars over to September to see Sunday was giving
me too much anxiety so I just didn’t. Let’s just say that September is an
important month for me, work-wise, and what I can accomplish in the next week
will set the tone for the rest of the year.

There is a lot to celebrate in this so called last week of
summer. Wednesday is the last night of our High Voltage residency at The Silverlake
Lounge and we’ve got Rags & Ribbons so you know it’ll be a good one. I’m
also looking forward to Monday night at The Hotel Cafe and The Shakers et al at
The Troubadour on Saturday.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 7/29-8/4

This week, the Sunset Strip Music Festival is upon us. Events
kick off Thursday night with a tribute to and performance by Joan Jett &
The Blackhearts at The House of Blues. Thursday and Friday, venues along The
Strip are hosting an array of bands and then the street shuts down on Saturday
for an all day festival with headliner Linkin Park. For a full line up and
ticket prices, check out the SSMF website http://www.sunsetstripmusicfestival.com/event-info/.
Friday night also features a FREE outdoor concert at the lot across from The
Roxy. The Strip is my favorite part of Los Angeles and this is an excellent
opportunity to see what the area has to offer. Don’t miss out!

I have a powerful playlist of tunes going right now as I put
this calendar together. The new Irontom Nitro
EP has been the hit of my weekend after seeing them incite a mosh pit
Friday night. Pairing quite well with Irontom is some Meg Myers who new song “Heart
Heart Head” was a heart stopping hit last week at The Troubadour. Looking
forward to next week, I’ve added some rockin’ Queen Caveat tunes to celebrate
70’s night of their Monday Satellite residency and the Leogun EP in honor of my show pick of the week: Leogun at The Roxy
Tuesday night. I could not be more excited to have these British rockers back

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/13-5/19

This week is going to be a big week for music. Tuesday I am quite excited to see two sets of brothers, The Kin at The Viper Room followed by Hudson Taylor at The Hotel Cafe. Thursday we have another High Voltage event, this time we are back at one of my favorite venues, On the Rox (bar above The Roxy) and we have DJ High Voltage who is going to be spinning all the tunes I want to hear (dance party!). Finally, next weekend, I am thrilled to say I am a participating in one of the more exciting musical events I’ve uncovered, Overture Con (http://overturecon.com/). Saturday and Sunday night, there are some great bands including personal favorites Queen Caveat, Semi Precious Weapons, and Tournament of Hearts. During the daytime, there are special VIP activities to interact with the artists as well as some killer panels. I am on a panel on Sunday entitled “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of being a Super Music Fan”…boy do I have some stories to share about this topic! Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/13-5/19

This week is going to be a big week for music. Tuesday I am quite excited to see two sets of brothers, The Kin at The Viper Room followed by Hudson Taylor at The Hotel Cafe. Thursday we have another High Voltage event, this time we are back at one of my favorite venues, On the Rox (bar above The Roxy) and we have DJ High Voltage who is going to be spinning all the tunes I want to hear (dance party!). Finally, next weekend, I am thrilled to say I am a participating in one of the more exciting musical events I’ve uncovered, Overture Con (http://overturecon.com/). Saturday and Sunday night, there are some great bands including personal favorites Queen Caveat, Semi Precious Weapons, and Tournament of Hearts. During the daytime, there are special VIP activities to interact with the artists as well as some killer panels. I am on a panel on Sunday entitled “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly of being a Super Music Fan”…boy do I have some stories to share about this topic! Tickets for this event can be acquired through The Mint’s website.

It’s been a busy week of deadlines. I didn’t really get out much and when this happens I can go a bit crazy. I might do stupid things like buy expensive concert tickets just to see a 20min set from the opening band (The Neighbourhood on Tuesday were amazing). I also might do things like go from a brilliant acoustic Young Guns set to see The Backstreet Boys just to avoid staring at the computer screen for a day.

And now it’s Sunday and despite working until 2am on Friday night, I’m so behind with what I needed to do this weekend. Hopefully things won’t leak over too much into next week as I’d really like to start going to shows again. My number one pick would probably be The Virginmarys on Saturday at The Viper Room, but I feel like there are a lot of really solid rock line ups this week and I am beyond ready to rock it out!

I’m still riding that post-SXSW high. I’ve been stealing minutes here and there to process all the pictures and songs, bring faces back to the pile of business cards, and write and reflect on everything that happened so that I won’t soon forget.  I’ve also taken some time this week to catch up with friends and share my stories. I was only gone a week, but it seems like it was much longer based on all that happened while I was gone. Hopefully (or maybe not) this week will feel a bit more routine. There certainly are a number of shows inhabiting my week’s schedule. Monday Night, Nico Vega plays a free show at Universal City Walk, Tuesday is Sad Robot’s last residency date at Hemmingway’s, Wednesday is The Milk Carton Kids at Largo, etc. etc.
