Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 8/27-9/2

I only have one thing to mention this week. Tuesday night High Voltage Magazine is throwing a party in Santa Monica at TRiP. If you’re in town, you should come. We will have our newest edition of the magazine in which I showcased another band that I feel is “on the rise”. To see which band I selected, you’ll just have to check out the issue. There will also, of course, be some fantastic bands playing (Roman Candle Wars, The Young Romans, Italian Japanese, and The Janks). And did I mention cupcakes? There will also be cupcakes.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 8/20-8/26

Last week almost made me glad that I came back from vacation. From the phenomenal Birdy to new discovery SHEL to finally seeing The Dunwells to a private Dead Sara show to goth rock icon Peter Murphy to a hometown The Silent Comedy party, it was a busy week. The highlight had to be my impromptu run-in with the lead singer of Biffy Clyro, Simon Neil, outside The Roxy Monday night. I was shaky for days after and the slight persistent delirium really helped me through a difficult week back at the office.

Next week will have to be quite research-centric for me, but I am hoping to get out a time or two especially to see a couple former LA-based artists that have sadly left (Jay Nash and Truth & Salvage Co.).

Vacation is over. The Olympics are over. All the work I didn’t get done because of vacation and The Olympics is piling up. I was in a pretty dismal state until I looked at my upcoming music calendar. So much to look forward to and keep me going! This week, I’m particularly excited about Birdy at The Roxy on Monday, The Dunwells at The Hotel Cafe Tuesday, and Danielia Cotton at Room 5 on Weds. LMN’s new Band Love, The Neighbourhood, also plays twice this week, Monday at The Echo and Tuesday at The Troubadour. Then, let us not forget that it is Sunset Strip Music Fest (SSMF) week! Joey Ryan always gets my soul stirring with his tunes and while he doesn’t really do love songs, this is the exception. Your love is like a cloak that makes him super strong. That’s all he really needs.

Top 40 – I Got You Babe – Sonny and Cher

Do I really need to explain this?

Alternative Radio – I Believe In a Thing Called Love – The Darkness

This song has that pizazz that is new love, after all it is The Darkness. So stop humping each other for half a second and make sure this song is playing on loop, cause not only is it super fun, it’s super lovable!

Soundtrack – Once Upon A Dream – Sleeping Beauty

The whole premise for the song is that Princess Aurora (yes I know her real name) knows her true love because she walked with him once upon a dream. Foretelling dreams of love are romantical, but I don’t recommend taking up with a stranger you meet in the woods just because he can harmonize with you.

Misc – Ramble On – The Lillingtons

This may not technically be a love song, but technically I think this is how most people feel when they are in love and that feeling is kind of sick and overwhelming.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar 2/6-2/12

Well…that was certainly an eventful weekend. Friday night I had a very ominous feeling before going to the El Rey to join a friend for Adam Gontier (of Three Days Grace) and Martin Sexton. At the end of the evening, I ended up in fascinating company at my fave late night eatery and I thought my gut must have been waaay off. Three hours later, sleepless and in the ER with a friend, my earlier instincts were justified.

Saturday, I cancelled my plans to participate in Tyrone Well’s music video shoot in Venice for sleep’s sake. Then it was an evening at The Rainbow Room and The Hotel Cafe with great food, friends, and music (the three essentials of any successful evening).

Today I had to cut myself off from the world and lock myself in lab as I had entered the weekend woefully behind on an important deadline at work and that I have two big presentation to give in the next seven days.
