As it is the second week of the new year, I fully expect everyone (myself included) to be completely rested up and out and about for some really great shows this week! I don’t venture out as often as those of you might think but I’m feeling a change in the air. With my end of year mix published (debating on whether or not to reveal my B-Sides), it’s on to listening to artists for my next mix…for SXSW! I can’t believe how quickly March approaches…

But focusing on shows this week, The Satellite is having Satellite Nights. Free shows all week and a great opportunity to discover new bands like Chasing Kings, NO, and Roman Candle Wars. If you haven’t been to The Satellite, here’s an excellent opportunity to head over to Silverlake and check it out.

Happy 2012! I hope you all have been enjoying my end of year posts. I had a rockin’ New Year’s Eve last night at The Roxy with Semi Precious Weapons and friends. I’m very much looking forward to what the new year will bring. What life-changing shows will be attended. What new musical acts will be discovered. What fantastic journeys we will take. Maybe this will be the year I will follow one of my favorite bands around Europe…

10. “The Prince” – The Silent Comedy 

The Silent Comedy, one of my favorite bands from San Diego, had an amazing year traveling the country, playing with Ryan Bingham, and making so many new fans and friends. The weekend of the San Diego Music Thing (one of my favorite music conferences), I traveled down a day early to see the boys play in Balboa Park. During my travels, however, there was a massive power outage that impacted the greater San Diego area and beyond. We ventured to the park anyway and The Silent Comedy played for us outside, unplugged via candlelight. Afterwards we all headed over to a friend’s pool for some late night swimming. Fortunately the power came on for the weekend’s events, but I will never forget the intimacy of that evening when The Silent Comedy played acoustic songs like this version of “The Prince”

It’s a fresh new Monday fresh from Christmas. I hope everyone had a lovely time filled with family, friends, and good times. I also hope you got everything you wanted and nothing you didn’t (but if not, there is always Amazon or Craigslist)!

Can you believe New Years is on Saturday? Where did the year go? Well, I’ll be posting some musical highlights from my year later this week. Speaking of New Years, the only place you should be is at the Lafayette Hotel for the Silent Comedy/Transfer show which features The Creepy Creeps, Low Volts and The Heavy Guilt. It’s going to be a crazy good time!!

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!! Because it’s the holiday season, this week is a bit light on shows. I would like to think I’ll be using the time to catch up on my movie and tv watching, but I’ll most likely spend most of it catching up on work and suffering from live music withdrawal.

I think I just about holiday-partied myself out last week…but by the end of The Hotel Cafe Christmas party last night even I was beginning to feel some holiday cheer!
