Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 4/8-4/14

Watching some season 1 Veronica Mars in honor of the super successful Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the VM movie. I’m excited (and yes, I pledged). I’ve seen these episodes so many times, it’s the perfect background for getting some work done.

Speaking of work, it’s been overtime for me lately, so I haven’t been going to as many shows. There are some good ones next week too. I’m most excited about Curtis Peoples’ record release show on Wednesday at The Roxy. Then of course, if you’re lucky enough to have tickets, week 1 of Coachella is this weekend. I’m still riding that post-SXSW high. I’ve been stealing minutes here and there to process all the pictures and songs, bring faces back to the pile of business cards, and write and reflect on everything that happened so that I won’t soon forget. I’ve also taken some time this week to catch up with friends and share my stories. I was only gone a week, but it seems like it was much longer based on all that happened while I was gone. Hopefully (or maybe not) this week will feel a bit more routine. There certainly are a number of shows inhabiting my week’s schedule. Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 2/18-2/24

When I’m sick, I try to do the “right thing” and not go out at night. It’s hard. Then, when I can’t get my music fix live, I reach out in other ways. Let’s just say this weekend, I spent way too much money on CDs and concert tickets. The combination of delirium and withdrawal is simply not good for my wallet.

Hopefully this flu will be gone by Monday so we can get this week off to a good start. Monday night, High Voltage Magazine is co-sponsoring the A House For Lions Show at The Echoplex so if you’re planning on checking this band out one of these Mondays (and you should), this would be the Monday I’d suggest. Also, one of my impulse buys on Friday was the twenty one pilots record. Now I’m even more excited about this band’s gig Wednesday night at The Troubadour.

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/17-12/23

Last week was a blur of holiday parties, sleepless nights, and dwarves. Saturday night, I attended the annual Hotel Cafe Holiday party and after hearing the gentlemen of Broken Anchor do their traditional Christmas rap followed by Cary Brothers and Harper Blynn merging their talents on what might now be my new favorite rendition of “O Holy Night”, it officially feels like The Holiday Season! Now, if only I could get some elves over to finish up my Christmas gifts, I’d be all set!

This week hosts another Holiday tradition, Camp Freddy at The Roxy. Instead of every Friday in December, this year the super group + unknown special guests are doing three nights in a row this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I can’t wait to see what surprises are in store for us this year.

The other must-see this week is Tuesday at The Hotel Cafe. This marks the last night of Harper Blynn’s residency. If you haven’t gotten around to seeing this amazing band, this is your last chance. DO IT!

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 10/1-10/7

Too much. There is just too much going on this week. I could live at The Wiltern and see Ed Sheeran, Foxy Shazam, The Head and The Heart and Jason Mraz all in one week! It’s also a good week to be on the East Side for one of the most fun (and most affordable) music festivals, Filter’s Culture Collide (http://culturecollide.com/). There are some out of country bands playing I’ve been wanting to see for years! And Let’s not forget the usual amount of greatness featured at The Hotel Cafe…the start of October residencies from Harper Blynn and The Young Romans, an intimate Laura Marling show. I could live at that venue as well. Even considering all of that, my show pick for the week would have to be The Milk Carton Kids Thursday night at Largo. If you’ve ever seen this captivating duo, you’d know why.
