New Music Tuesday 7/17/12 Featuring Milo Greene, Todd Carey, Alberta Cross

My favorite part about Tuesdays is the new music available for my ears. Here are some of the CDs I’m going to check out today. If you’re also in the market for some tunes, I’d suggest you do the same!

Milo GreeneMilo Greene

It’s been about a year since LMN started talking about Milo Greene and the band have finally released their debut self-titled album. If you want to be swept away by the idyllic beauty of songs like “Silent Way,” do not hesitate to get this album (Amazon or Itunes). It’s a keeper!

Toddy CareyThe Duets Project

Singer-songwriter, Todd Carey, has released an EP of his songs that he has transformed into duets with female artists like Amber Rubarth and Sarah Miles. Carey previews the EP, calling it “a stripped down revisiting of my catalog”. You can listen to the tracks here http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/#/10 and buy the album here.

Alberta CrossSongs of Patience

I’ve only heard one song so far, but I’m really looking forward to digesting the new album from Alberta Cross. Go to their website and download “Magnolia” for free! Then buy their album here.

Other CDs to check out today:

Kristen’s ’11 Mix – Bonus 2 – Harper Blynn

Bonus 2. “Halo” (Beyonce/Dirty Projectors Cover) – Harper Blynn

I spent a lot of time this year hanging out at The Mint. I had friends who worked there so…this often translated to free music and food. And it was good music and food (garlic fries, mac n cheese, taquitos, yum!). Some memorable nights at The Mint included any High Voltage night (Marti Gras, Dead Sara, Queen Caveat), Andrew Belle and Schuyler Fisk, Liam Gerner, Empire (a fantastic new band), etc. Harper Blynn is one of those bands I discovered at The Mint. They absolutely blew me away. I was transfixed by their energy and their songs. I love their album, Loneliest Generation, but it’s this cover of Beyonce’s “Halo” that I felt needed a spot on this mix as it became my wake up and get out of bed tune of the year. These Brooklyn boys spend a couple of months in LA doing a residency at The Hotel Cafe and brought out other fantastic artists like The Damnwells, Cary Brothers, Todd Carey, and Laura Jansen. They also did a couple amazing shows at Bardot. It was a great year for me and Harper Blynn.

Kristen’s ’10 Mix – Track 4- Joe Firstman

4. Joe Firstman – Pretty Things

2010 proved a good year for Joe Firstman. He released a CD, Live at The Treehouse which I think may be my favorite Joe Firstman CD since 2004’s War of Women. Joe was also a feature of my summer vacation, a trip to South Carolina to spend a weekend on the beach with a bunch of singer-songwriters at Hotel Carolina. Other highlights from that event included Matt Duke, Tony Lucca, Curtis Peoples , Jay Nash, Todd Carey, etc. “Pretty Things” was one of my favorite songs from that entire weekend…everyone knows it and everyone got up on stage to sing it.

More fun videos from Hotel Carolina 2010:

track 3: Biffy Clyro
track 5: Jealousy Curve

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 9/6-9/12

I nearly forgot I needed to write this up as it kind of feels like the weekend is not over yet…because it’s not! YAY for three days weekends. I actually had some great plans for today but proceeded to sleep through all of them. I must have had way too much fun last night at The After Midnight Project show at The Key Club. The AMP boys put on quite the to-do and I am so glad some of you were able to make it out to see my most recent band obsession. I’ve got good reviews all around so I’m incredibly pleased. For more of my musical suggestions, check out this week’s calendar…if you’re looking to try something new, might I suggest Queen Caveat at Spaceland on Saturday.

Still plenty of room at Hotel Carolina…

Hotel Carolina: From what I hear, it’s like going camping on the beach…but you know that guy/gal who’s always strumming the guitar around the campfire?…well multiply that by about 20 and make them all your very favorite singer-songwriters.

Friday August 27th music lovers will descend upon Isle of Palms, South Carolina and make our way to the legendary Windjammer where we will spend a weekend being serenaded by the likes of Joe Firstman and Matt Duke, going to BBQs, hanging out on the beach, and participating in several artist vs. fan sporting events (flip cup anyone?).

Need any more temptation? Well, okay! Amazon.com is giving away a FREE sampler featuring the artists who will be participating in this year’s event.

Go to The Hotel Carolina website  to learn even more about the event and the featured artists.

This year’s line-up is particularly exciting to me and includes several of my favorites. Looks like this:

Todd Carey
The Bridges
Curtis Peoples
Joe Firstman
Josh Hoge
Sequoyah Prep School
Tony Lucca

Jim Bianco
Jay Nash
Sun Domingo
Matt Duke
Keaton Simons
Benjy Davis Project
Ernie Halter

Convinced? Go here to get your tickets!

Even if you can’t make it to the event, you should still check out these amazing artists!

Listen! Learn! LOVE!
