Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 4/21-4/27

I hope everyone had a wonderful and enjoyable Sunday yesterday. I myself spent it in recovery mode after going to three shows this week! Recovery for me included Mexican food, Netflix, napping, and some Chinese food. All in all, a great lazy Sunday. I do wish I had some kind of marshmallow goodness to munch on though.

Anyways, I hope you have rested up because this week is jam packed full of goodness! Apparently, Sunday is the night to be out with about nine different acts playing that evening. But don’t fret, if you can’t make something work on Sunday, The Reader on Tap show is an option for Friday with Transfer, Dead Feather Moon, and more. Kristen’s 5 Most Anticipated Acts of Bonnaroo 2012

  1. The Silent Comedy

Favored sons of San Diego have come a long way in the past year or so. To see their unique brand of ground-stomping, soul-stirring  folk rock at my favorite festival will be an unforgettable experience for sure,  one that I’m looking forward to more than any other at this year’s event.

Catch them Sunday 4pm at The Great Taste Lounge and again at 6:15 at The Sonic Stage.

2. Needtobreathe

One of the best shows I’ve been to this year was Needtobreathe at Club Nokia. This band from South Carolina is absolutely perfect for the Bonnaroo audience. I can’t imagine anything but a tent-raising good time.

Catch them at Which Stage Friday at 2pm.

3. The Lonely Forest

I’ve been itching to see The Lonely Forest again since their record, Arrows, came out last year. This indie rock band from Anacortes, Washington puts on a great live show. I still regret missing them at SXSW two years ago…I will not let an opportunity to see The Lonely Forest pass me by again!

Catch them Thursday 5:30 at This Tent

 4. We Are Augustines

I’m still buzzing off the We Are Augustines set at Coachella. These boys from Brooklyn made a great impression on me out in the desert. I’m sure they will cast a similar spell on the planes of Tenessee.

Catch them Saturday at The Great Taste Lounge at 10:40 and again on Sunday at the Sonic Stage at 2:15.

 5. St. Vincent

I love St. Vincent. Any chance I get to see Annie Clark perform, I will be front and center (well, as much front and center I can manage).

Catch them Friday 7:45 at That Tent

Other acts on my list to see:

See you at The ‘Roo!

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 5/21-5/27

Just got back from the San Diego Safari Park. Such a fun experience! Two amazing facts I learned today. 1) the cheetahs have canine companions. Seeing the two creatures so disparate in my mind being so chummy was a tad mind blowing. 2) There are only 8 black rhinos in the world. They are all past reproductive age so there will never be more than 8, only less. I saw two of them walking around today. Again, mind blown.

I’m in San Diego for a conference where I will be presenting tomorrow. It’ll be an all-day affair, so I thought I’d get my calendar done and out early. If you’re in LA tonight (Saturday), I’d strongly recommend heading to Molly Malone’s to catch Zane Carney play at 10pm.

Another great week for new tunes. Here are some must have’s for your collection.

Dead SaraDead Sara

I’ve been loving this rock band from LA for so long, it’s hard to believe this album is just coming out now. The year isn’t even half over, but this will be one of the best albums to come out this year. Guarenteed. Get into it!

you can find the album here

Scars on 45Scars on 45

Haven’t heard the album yet, but I’m heading down to Long Beach tonight for the CD release party at Fingerprints and will be sure to pick it up there.

You can get it up here.

Hoots & HellmouthSalt

These Philly boys know how to put on a good show. I’m sure their new LP will be another must-have for my collection. You can listen to a stream of it here: http://www.hootsandhellmouth.com/index.php

Kristen’s LA Concert Calendar: 12/5-12/11

I barely survived last week. I can’t remember the last time I pushed my poor body so hard for so long. I can’t say it was a bad week because it was peppered by some amazing musical experiences, but it’s not a good sign when going to a show is a “break” rather than the end of your day. But it is weeks like these that make me most thankful for great live music and its ability to get me through just about anything.

Here’s to hoping this week can be fabulous without the severe sleep deprivation!  Musically, there is a lot of promise. Friday I’m going to wish I could be in 10 places at once. Thankfully, my fave rockers Queen Caveat will also be making an appearance Weds night down in Hermosa Beach. They’ve been busy recording new music and I’ve been suffering withdrawals…
