New Music Tuesday 7/23/13 Featuring Kid Karate, Ben Rector, Truth & Salvage Co.

In need of some new music in your life? Well, I’ve got you covered. Here are my top picks from what is coming out this week.

Kid KarateLights Out EP

This Irish duo has been tearing it up in LA these last couple of weeks. I’ve been looking forward to this release since I first heard “Two Times” in preparation for this year’s SXSW. To me they have a very White Stripes kind of vibe, hard-hitting and raw rock music. They play in San Diego tonight at The Griffin.

Ben Rector The Walking In Between

As a huge fan of his previous releases, Into The Morning and Something Like This, I have high hopes for this singer songwriter’s newest release. Ben has a talent for writing fun and engaging pop songs. I haven’t delved into The Walking In Between yet, but the first single “Beautiful” is the free single on itunes this week and I listen to that and can’t help but smile. He’s coming back to SoCal this fall playing the House of Blues in both SD and LA September 23rd and 24th
respectively.

Truth & Salvage Co.Pick Me Up

Before they moved to Nashville, Truth & Salvage Co. was one of my favorite LA bands. They put on such an enjoyable live show with their Americana rock, you can’t help but dance and sing along. I’m going to guess that Pick Me Up is a very apt title for the new album.

Kristen’s SXSW ’13 Mix – Part 3 – Kassidy, Kid Karate, Kill It Kid

SXSW is my favorite time of the year for collecting new artists to watch. Far be it from me to keep these gems to myself. Here are some of bands and songs I discovered this year:

7. Kassidy – “One Man Army”

My SXSW moment with Kassidy is one of my favorites (see top 10 sets). I’m looking forward to hearing their new “mini album” People Like Me which will hopefully make its appearance on American iTunes in the near future…there is just not enough music available from these guys!

8. Kid Karate – “Two Times”

This song strikes me as having a very “Jack White” quality. I like that. I like this song.

 9. Kill It Kid – “Pray on Me”

Another British rock band that makes my list (I do have my proclivities). I love the dueling male and female vocals and the unique sound which Wikipedia amusingly labels blues/grunge/Americana.
