The Arkells and Phantom Planet gave me life Saturday night at the Pacific Electric. It had been too many years since I have been able to see the The Arkells live and they remain one of the more energizing and enjoyable concerts. Both bands went off script, following the vibes (and song requests) from the crowd, making it feel like an authentic and communal experience – much needed!

Next week is looking pretty full, including an overwhelming Wednesday of options. The Irish are coming with CMAT, Florence Road and a celebration of Glen Hansard all happening that night (in different spaces). Also, Chris Cornell’s daughter, Toni, brings her polished pop to Permanent Records, Hilary Duff is talking about her career and singing a few tunes at The Grammy Museum, and one of my top SXSW discoveries, In Color, are opening for Jutes at the Wiltern. And that’s not all!

I’m not sure you can make a bad choice that night – or any other this week. Here are my picks:
