Kristen’s Concert Calendar: 4/26-5/2

This week’s email is brought to you from the lovely town of  Horseheads, NY where I have been spending the weekend…well part of the weekend. I also journeyed down to the Philadelphia area to see one of my favorite bands  (Jealousy Curve) play…twice.  Despite the lack of sleep it was a fantastic weekend! The Silent Comedy: New Music! New Shows! New Pictures!

Amanda told you about The Silent Comedy’s upcoming show at The Casbah (April 2nd) where you can get an advanced copy of their new CD, Common Faults. But if you are not fortunate enough to be in the San Diego area, you can now pre-order the record online and it will ship out the beginning of April. Go here to place your order!

If you’re in LA, then you’re in luck! The band is coming up on March 31st, playing Bootleg along with LA natives Links and Doll the Kicks (from England).  It will be a fantastic show…bring your dancing shoes!

Also, the boys have a mailing list, so sign up and be the first to know when they are coming to play in a town near you. This, trust me, is an opportunity not to be missed. The Silent Comedy put on one of my favorite live performances.

Finally, some pictures from the last The Silent Comedy/Transfer show at The Casbah, and a lovely video done by 91X capturing the essence of the evening: http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=_9AgLA8cq68

Go here to sign up for the mailing list:

The Classic Crime comes to Anaheim

This Tuesday I really hope to find the time and energy to trek down to Anaheim to a place called Chain Reaction to see a band called The Classic Crime. The Classic Crime is from Seattle but despite their relative proximity they don’t seem to make it down to LA all that often and I’ve only seen them once (at Warped Tour).  I discovered them several years ago when I was bored and cruising myspace (two things that never happen anymore). The band had just released an acoustic EP, Seattle Sessions, and someone had posted the track “Seattle” on their page. It was love at first listen! I immediate ordered the EP and that song ended up making my best of list that year. Now listen and love that track, but be warned that is not the sound typical of this band (I mentioned Warped Tour, right?). Actually, when listening to the breadth of their catalog of music, I realize that it’s a bit difficult to classify them much further than “rock.” Their CD The Silver Chord produced one of my fave tracks of this year, “Closer Than We Think.” They have a new CD coming out April 6th called Vagabonds and I would love to see some of their new material performed…I’m also still crossing my fingers that I’ll get to hear “Seattle.” My heart…will melt…

I am being drawn to this band

  http://www.myspace.com/scarson45

They are called Scars on 45. I just heard them for the very first time a couple of hours ago. I am feeling inexplicably drawn to thier music…which is great because they are playing at The Hotel Cafe TONIGHT which was where I was planning on going anyway…now I just have to try to make it there by 6pm which is when This group goes on. Preliminary research suggests they are from The United Kingdom so come out tonight before they disappear across the pond!

Also playing tonight, a couple of my local faves Joey Ryan and Jim Bianco, as well as Dan Wilson who, in my opinion, writes some of the best lyrics ever to be put to song…NOT to be missed!

Local LA Shows For The Week

Nico Vega’s new music video for their song “Gravity” is FINALLY out! I was fortunate enough to be a part of it and so proud of how it turned out. We might as well call this Nico Vega week. Starts with a fantastic music video and ends on Friday with their show at the El Rey opening for The Soundtrack of Our Lives. And if you’re really crazy (like me), you might consider a midweek journey to San Diego to catch them at The Casbah…seriously…

I can’t get enough of this band and if you haven’t already, please check them out!
