New Music Tuesday 8/27/13 Featuring Foy Vance, Matt Wertz, Franz Ferdinand

New music! New music! New music!!

Foy VanceJoy of
Nothing

I got a preview of this album last week at Amoeba records and I have to say it is a winner from start to finish. Foy Vance is a captivating performer and the power and emotion he relays on stage are captured quite well in the record. Expect to hear his songs and name on many a soundtrack in the upcoming year.  If you’re in LA, Foy will be at The Hotel Cafe October 28th. Also, this song is up for free download on iTunes so don’t miss out!

Matt WertzHeatwave

The singer songwriter takes a step away from the simple guy with guitar model and towards a more heavily produced sound that goes into more pop and even country territories…with a hint of blistering rock guitar solos. Some of the songs come off as a bit cheesy-90’s pop to me, but you can’t deny the catchiness. I prefer the more toned down, meaningful songs, but I applaud the effort to bust out of the box and shake things up a bit. Matt will be in LA at The Bootleg Theater September 12th. The video for single, “Get to You” is a real treat and I feel explains a lot about the record.

Franz FerdinandRight Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action

I haven’t heard any of the new album, but who wouldn’t be interested in new material from Franz Ferdinand?!? Here’s a taste of the sounds and meaning behind the album:

Amanda’s SD Concert Calendar 8/26-9/1

I don’t know about you but I had a busy weekend and it all caught up to me on Sunday when I crashed and burned. Thankfully, I feel fully recovered today but I will probably never recover from watching the VMAs last night. It’s funny to me that MTV still has an awards show for music when they never air music videos. The M in MTV stands for something other than music these days. Does anyone else remember the days of TRL (Total Request Live) which was an actual music video countdown? I do. But I digress, there’s actual real live music out there to go see so go go go!.

New Music Tuesday 8/20/2013 featuring: William Beckett, Andrew Belle, Ben Rector, and more!

Welcome to a very special New Music Tuesday! Why is it special? Because it’s my birthday and I decided to hijack the posting duties from Kristen today. He he. Hope you enjoy!

William Beckett– Genuine and Counterfeit

I’ve been a long time fan of William Beckett, ever since the days of The Academy Is… After the band broke up, he decided to go out on his own, start over, and do things his own way. After multiple ep releases over the past year, he is finally stepping out with his first full length record. Admittedly, I’m not a fan of the beginning, but as the storyline throughout the album develops, I fall in love.

Andrew BelleBlack Bear

Andrew Belle is a recent discovery for me after something on the Noisetrade email told me I should check him out and I’ve been listening ever since. There’s something I really enjoy about the airiness that makes me feel like I’ve been transported to a whole other place. I’m sure if you check out his newest release you will be feeling the same way.

Ben RectorThe Walking In Between
Ben Rector is one of my favorite singer/songwriters. His piano pop songs are fresh and fun yet still have the ability to hit you in the heart. I’ve hear some of this record and it seems to fall in line with what we’ve all come to know and love about Ben.

TravisWhere You Stand

When I saw Travis was releasing a new album, I did a little jump for joy. These British rockers were part of the first concert I ever attended back in high school. I was so enamored that I used the band as a subject for an AP English project and promptly made “Why Does it Always Rain On Me?” my anthem. Fran Healy is, for me, the epitome of brit rock vocalists as well as a master lyricist. I can’t wait to dig into this album, their first in 5 years. The band is coming to LA Oct. 4th
playing The Wiltern.

Releases from 8/13/13:

The Wild Feathers – The
Wild Feathers
Royal Teeth –Glow
Ty Segall – Sleeper
Yellowcard – Ocean
Avenue Acoustic
Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know?

There’s nothing like the bliss that comes from seeing a band you love take the stage and kick some ass. What’s rough to deal with is the comedown from the show high and the subsequent withdrawals that begin to take place. I hope all of you have been able to get out and enjoy some music. I’ve been so busy running around doing other important things that it’s hard to get myself out at night. I guess that’s what happens when you have to be a responsible adult and can’t behind the guise of schoolwork. Hopefully once I get this stuff taken care of or I can find some kind of rhythm or schedule to make it work. I think I’m going to have to start implementing mid-day naps.
